Crappie Rod Recommend (Beginner Fisherman)

So, I am new to fishing at 41 years old and absolutely loving it. I am currently fishing from the shoreline for Crappie. I plan on buying a canoe before the end of the year and a boat in a few years. But, for now I'm fishing from the shore and mostly interested in Crappie at the moment.

 

I currently am using a Daiwa Revros LT (2500) with a 6.5 ft. Daiwa AirDx Medium Power/Fast action. This rod is for 1/4 - 3/4 jigs. I'm wanting a 7ft light power rod/ultra fast or fast action and 1/8 - 1/32 jigs. I want something that will always look good with the gold/orange, whatever color this reel is that is around $100. Any suggestions for a beginner?

Thanks, mrpao! I was definitely looking at the Daiwa Presso. Any recommendations on where to order from that will package a rod properly for delivery? I've ordered from Omnia before but the Daiwa Presso isn't listed on their site. I see it's available from fishusa.com but I've never heard of ordered from them.

I see Scheels has it. May order from them if that's what I decide to go with but would like other recommendations to compare to.

FishUSA is one of my go-to sites. Never had an issue with an order from them.

Xfast seems like a mistake for a crappie rod.

I'd be jacking them up every time I set the hook.

Well, I'm not Paul, but my prime crappie rod under $100 for things like beetle spins, micro cranks/jerks and other 'cranking' baits is an Okuma Reflexions A, 7'0" ML/MF. The equivalent in the replacement 'B' series is the 7'2" ML/MF

Thanks, MN Fisher. I appreciate any and all advice. Regardless of whom it comes from. So, at the moment I only have a variety of jigs. No crank/jerk baits at the moment but I plan on ordering some. I started with 1/4 oz. jigs but have switched to 1/8 - 1/32 oz. I also have some road runners. After all, I am literally just starting and starting from nothing. Working through the endless amount of information it seems but I'm enjoying it.

 

I've mostly been using a slip bobber setup (Rocket Bobber) or sometime fixed bobber. Would you recommend a Medium Light/Medium Fast rod specifically for crank/jerk baits (crappie fishing) or would this rod also be good for a slip bobber setup? Definitely struggling from the shoreline with this heat.

Personally, I use a 5' ultra-lite with 8-10lb powerpro, #2 long shank Eagle Claw hooks, and a rocket bobber. The rod is a Shakespeare that I caught on a jig while bass fishing. Rocket bobber will make any bait cast a country mile. I've literally caught thousands of panfish on this setup

The #1 crappie lure is a tube jig everything else comes in 2nd.

Crappie like to hang out under docks in the shade.

2 tone color soft plastic tube jigs work everywhere 1/16 to 1/8 oz is the standard size.

Crappie rods 7’ to 8’ light power with moderate or slow tip lets the tube jig work and allows the crappie to hook its self by pulling the rod tip down.

Spinning reel 500 or 750 size with 4 lb mono.

The ML/MF will work for slip-bobber usage. My current bobber rig is a Pflueger Supreme 30 (2500 size reel) on an Okuma Celilo B 7'0" L/F...don't let that L fool you, it's rated 3/16oz-5/8oz...so more like a Medium power. For an inexpensive rod (about $40) it's actually fairly well built and I've no complaints.

 

My setup is usually a Rocket Bobber to a 1/16oz jig with 2" plastics (Big Bites Crappie Minnr, Berkley Gulp Minnow, Bobby Garland Baby Shad, Mr Crappie Jokers and Shadpole)

For crappie I'm using a st C triumph 6.5' Light/fast but it's really a noodle. It's probably a moderate. Occasionally I will take a fly rod instead.

I use an Edge 7’ two piece rod. It’s a light/fast. It has a carbon grip and titanium guides, it’s a sweet rod. The only two piece I own. I have a Vanford 2500 on it w 4 pound CX line. Gary’s wait time is 3 to 5 weeks though..

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'm going to order the Daiwa Presso Ultra Light/Fast Action rod. I've been eyeing it for a few days now and it'll look great with the Daiwa Revros LT I'm going to use with it. I do wish it wasn't two pieces. We'll see if I like it and no big deal if I don't.

I prefer one piece rods also, but the two piece Presso rods have never been an issue. 

Ive had the 6', 6'6" and 7' versions.

The are not fast action but fairly moderate.

They work good for moving baits and float fishing.
