Last night I ordered The Fat Ika in 4 different colors.  I couldnt stand reading one more posting about how good they are.  You know I dont want to miss the boat.  Is there anything special I should know about rigging and presenting these baits.  I am planning on rigging them weightless on a regular 3 or 4 /0  worm hook.  Any advice at all??  Thanks

The gold standard hook for the fat Ika is the Gammy 4/0 EWG. Rig the Fat Ika "texposed" and skin the point... most of us rig it with the skirt up (backwards) but both ways will work with different actions possible. Everyone has to experiment a little to see what works best for you. Just don't fish it too fast.

"The magic lure" that was a huge thread...

I agree with everything above but I like to use gammie 5/0 superline hooks. I like the fall rate and never have a problem with hooksets. I have been using them around rip-rap, dams and breakwalls that have weed beds near. Most of the time they hit it on the drop but also I will get them on the 2nd or 3rd drop as I work it back to the boat. When the Bass takes the Ika she won't let it go. I always let her swim off with it a few seconds before I set the hook. There are times I only feel a tap-tap but I still wait a few seconds.90% of the time she will still have it. If I set the hook on the first tap or tug my hook up to landing ratio go's way down.

Good Luck!

Gammy, Gamy, Gammie, Gamie...all just abbreviations for Gamakatsu.

I just ordered 3 bags from Brad, hopefully I'll have them sometime this week.

I haven't been this excited to try a bait sense the Senko!

Rw, you haven't let me down yet with advice, I pray the streak continues!

Is the Ika more durable than a senko?

in my experience, yes, but not by much, they're pumped full of salt just like the senkos the only thing is that they're about twice as thick

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the welcome, Roadwarrior!

I picked up a couple of packages of Fat Ikas today at Dicks Sporting goods. There is a $10 off $25 purchase coupon if anyone is interested. Just print it out and take it in. Can't beat that deal!

If any of you want this coupon, PM me and I will email it to you. (It's a pdf file)

I usually use a 4/0 EWG Gammi but here lately have had great success with a 5/0 G-Lock Gammi.  The G-Lock hook seems to hold the bait better and is just a little fatter than the EWG's.
