Red worms

When I was a kid my dad fished red plastic worms, almost exclusively.  I don't know anyone still using them.   I was looking at some Tomatoe colored Zoom Finesse worms.  Anyone have an opinion on red plastics?

I still throw red occasionally. Zoom is the one I used the most.

During the summer months I use Zoom Ol,monster worms in red bug, plum, and plum apple. Occasionally I will use Junebug if I'm in more marshy waters. (clear but dark) My favorite color for anything else soft plastic is watermelon candy, just don't have the confidence in it in a worm.

I use to throw the red Jelly worms some but they didnt seem to catch as many fish as Blueberry or black grape.  I did like them on Lake of the Ozark bluffs for spotted bass.

I throw red and pink worms a lot, but when I am fishing for steelhead.

I use Plum Apple and Red Shad/Green Glitter in several of the plastics I throw.

 

And I would say that a Red Shad worm (with or without the green glitter) has probably caught as many if not more bass in the Atchafalaya Basin than anything else since that color came out many years ago.

Plum and redbug are go-to colors for me summer and fall. Junebug is still a killer color too IMHO . Merthiolate and pink worms will work here too. But they get used in early spring and summer mostly. If I fish very clear water the watermelon/red color works well also.

Tis' a Zoom Ol Monster. I was throwing it weightless in that slop and dragging it either on the top or right under. Had a few hits that didn't connect and that one. Lots of smaller bass in there though. I have pulled some 3-4 pounders out of there though, which is what I was hoping for.

 

I ran into a vintage bag of powerworms in a color that is plum ish. The sticker is off the bag, but they work good. Anyone recognise what it is?

 

 

This nice one fell to the vintage power worms!

 

I wonder if that old powerbait has a magic smell since it's been aging 30 years.
