Bazoo Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 I have a small tackle bag that will house 2 3600 size boxes and some soft plastics. I stuff it full and have most of what I need for shore fishing, but sometimes I don't want to carry that. I often will take a couple of bags of plastics/hooks/weights, and walk up the shore for a quick trip. Along with 1 or 2 rods. Problem is, I don't have a way to carry a very small amount of stuff like that. I sometimes want to carry 2-3 lures, such as a crankbait, a topwater, maybe a spinnerbait and I'll add a very small pocketable plano box. However, this isn't exactly convenient. I stuff it all in my pockets and make it work, not real well, but it works. What does everyone else use for a small shore travel system? 1 Quote

PaulVE64 Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 Plano utility box 4.25" x 8" x 2.5" for Hardbaits, jigs, etc. Everything but the rod and boots go in an Umpqua Ledges 650zs bag. 1 Quote
Americanzero Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 I was also going to say fanny pack, but I might k ow an even better option. Patagonia makes a bag called the Stealth Work Station 5L. It has a magnet on top, multiple attachment methods (you can belt loop it, carry it by hand, Velcro it to stuff), and a ton of storage. You could easily fit to of the little Plano boxes and a few bags of worms in it. It’s a little pricy, but it carry’s a great guarantee and mine has been indestructible. I have carried it across 5 states fly fishing and it’s been a champ 1 Quote
Bass Rutten Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 I've got an old rei hip pack I've had since the 90's that has many miles on it. I can fit 2 plano 3500's plus some bags of plastics in the main compartment, and a bunch of hooks and terminal in the smaller front one, with room for some tools as well on the outside pocket, about 7x10x4in. Perfect to keep in car for a quick bank sessions or unplanned stops, I spied a few used ones on the bay. Also a good pair of cargo pants with some spacious leg pockets is worth it's weight in gold for the additional storage space. 1 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted July 15, 2024 Super User Posted July 15, 2024 I’ve used multiple Fanny packs of different sizes for the past 30 years ever since I would ride a bike to the creek and fish for smallies. Then pond hopping for bass it was the same. I still use one of them to this day. It’s big enough to fit two 3500 boxes but I don’t do that. I have a plastic tube for a couple treble hooked baits, spinnerbaits and chatter baits go in the front pocket loose. A couple terminals in the little side pockets. A bag or two of known quantity plastics. 1 Quote

After giving it some thought, pairing down what I carry, but using the same bag might be the answer. 1 Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted July 16, 2024 Super User Posted July 16, 2024 I've been using this for years. It's fantastic. You can swing it behind to your back if you like, but I find it fine to cast with it on my side as shown. Magellan Outdoors Sling Pack | Academy 5 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted July 16, 2024 Super User Posted July 16, 2024 I keep a KastKing Blowback sling backpack in my daily driver. It holds a couple 3600's in the main compartment and enough soft plastics in the second compartment to cover just about all the bases if I drop by a pond. I also use it if I'm wading. It's just high enough on my back to not get soaked when I wade up to my waist. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 16, 2024 Super User Posted July 16, 2024 I call it my attack bag, it's actually a camera bag. It can hold three 3600 series Plano boxes plus numerous sacks of plastics. It has pockets that holds spinnerbait, jigs, everything without treble hooks. I set it up based on where I'm fishing. 4 1 Quote
RRocket Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 I use a Simms Tributary Sling. Truly an exceptional bag. https://www.simmsfishing.com/products/tributary-sling-pack?variant=43454052925630 2 Quote

GRiver Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 @Bazoo when I wade fished a lot I went to a thrift store, or Goodwill or one of those type stores. I got a sling back pack or a one strap pack. I wore it upside down on my back, so I spin it to my chest and it was right side up. I could get tackle standing in the river and still use both hands. They were inexpensive at the thrift store, so I tried a few until I found one that I liked best. Medium to small pack…. They even have real small one if ya don’t mind a pink princess pony pack. 2 Quote

Super User Spankey Posted July 16, 2024 Super User Posted July 16, 2024 When I’m on the hoof I’d rather use a vest. Easier to carry what you need. But I’m sure this is just because of being a trout fisherman. There are some decent mesh type vest out there that are not that expensive. Not hot to wear. A decent canvas creel bag would suffice. I like breaking away from the norm of fishing out of the boat sometimes during the summer and fishing under the canopy of stream trees. The mile or two of walking feels good. 1 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted July 16, 2024 Super User Posted July 16, 2024 for anyone looking for a bag, the plano guide series are quite nice. I started with a 3700 size in the boat (5x 3700 plus a 3600) and it served me well for years until I bumped up to the XL this spring (7x 3700 plus 3x3600). However in the small bags category they have a 3500 size (and also a 3600) which is a nice little bag for a travelling light angler. It comes with the 5x 3500 sized boxes. The three pouches on the size are enough to throw a couple packs of plastics or small items. And Amazon has them on a prime day sale today and tomorrow for 15% off ($57 now). That's not a cheap option, but its a very nice option. 2 Quote
Drew03cmc Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 I'm using a Plano 3600 sling pack. It holds 2 3600s, but I seldom fill it. I normally use a 3500 size box and a few bags of soft baits. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 16, 2024 Super User Posted July 16, 2024 I finally gave in and bought a fanny pack from Fishpond. Looks goofy but it works great. It has a ton of room. I also use a sling pack for longer trips and on my kayak short runs. I am retiring my 7 year old Simms pack and got this one. For short pond trips I take a small pocket size box. It holds some terminal tackle and few small baits. 4 Quote
MAN Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Ive gone though the evolution. small soft tackle bag, backpack, sling pack.....and I think I am going to settle in on the fanny pack. Small soft tackle bag - have to pick up and drop as I constantly move Backpack - Ends up become a catch all everytime Slingpack - personally I don't like the way it feels slung around my shoulders. Currently looking for a good fanny pack 2 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted July 16, 2024 Super User Posted July 16, 2024 Usually, I'll just tie on what I plan to use, and then maybe put another bait or two in my pocket. Then I'll leave whatever else I might want in my car. That way I'm not carrying a ton of stuff, and if need be, I can walk back to my car and get something different. I used to carry a bunch of stuff with me in a tackle bag, but I've figured out that I catch more fish when I focus more on where and how I present my lure, versus trying to figure out what lure to use. Plus, when fishing from the bank, I'm pretty limited on what I can throw anyway. It has to be heavy enough to get out past the weeds along the bank, and weedless enough to make it's way back to me. So even if I brought a big tackle bag, 75% of it would be useless from the bank. 2 Quote
Super User Scott F Posted July 16, 2024 Super User Posted July 16, 2024 I favor the sling style fishing packs that are often used by fly fishermen. Goes over one shoulder and is swung to the front for access, and then around to the back and out of the way. 2 Quote
