Super User Swamp Girl Posted July 14, 2024 Super User Posted July 14, 2024 You all know I post Maine bass pics again and again, but I can't be the only BR member who catches bass in Maine. C'mon, my Maine bassin' brothers, bass up! 1 Quote
JQ-92 Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 I fish in NH, MA, and(border lakes of NH/Maine but seems like FB groups have much more activity than for New England than BR unfortunately. 1 Quote

Super User Swamp Girl Posted July 14, 2024 Author Super User Posted July 14, 2024 @jbmaine: WHEW! I'm not alone. Thanks, JB. Did you get any measurement on that bottom bass? Quote

I didn't measure the length or girth but my digital scale read 5 lb. 2 oz. This catch flew in the face of all the " Ya gotta be stealthy to catch the big ones" kind of talk. We were in a large cove with constant 6 ft depth and submerged weed bed up to two feet below the surface. I had set the trolling motor to slowly move us across the whole cove. So TM was going, sonar was pinging away, I was fan casting as we went. This one hit a spinner bait five feet from the boat. I actually saw the blur as it come out of the weeds. It doesn't look it from the pic. but the one five pics. down is one the missus caught ( on a Zebco reel) and was two pounds heaver than this one. Quote

And I preach it based upon what happens if I bump something in my canoe and I see three swirls within five feet of me as the bass bolt. So your wife caught a seven-pounder? Wow. They're rare. Quote
jbmaine Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 Don't get me wrong .I believe in stealth also. There is a certain pond in northern Maine I used to fly fish for native brookies. The trout were tucked in around a spring. I learned to wait until there was a breeze to riffle the water before casting. If I casted when it was calm the line splash would spook the fish. I'm just saying every so often there are exceptions. The misses is a very interesting fisherwomen. She has tendinitis in both hands, arms, and so has very little strength in either arm. A zebco is all she can handle and her casts are more of a lob and go most anywhere. A weightless senko is about all she uses. If she hooks a fish I have to reel it in for her ( that's why I was holding the fish). With all that I can't begin to tell you how many times she has out fished me. Yes, she did catch a seven pounder, on a cast that ended up far from where she was aiming, in the middle of open water with no structure in sight, six feet of water, dead featureless bottom, in an area I would never have cast to. It taught me to never take for granite where fish might be. Quote

Your bride proved my point. 😁 Quote
MassBass Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 I head up to Maine to fish then and again. My fishin bud lives up there now. Usually keep quiet about Maine bass fishing, but I think the cat has been out of the bag for a while now. 1 Quote
