snowplow Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Hey guys, when Tactical Bassin or others talk about grass, what exactly do they mean? Around here I don't see a whole lot of grass, if he means bladed grass. We do however, have tons of hydrilla and milfoil and weedy stuff like that that I don't know all the names of. So I guess my question is this: is he talking about grass grass, or is he calling weeds grass? 1 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted July 10, 2024 Super User Posted July 10, 2024 grass = weeds = aquatic vegetation Unless you want to specifically talk about a specific type, aka targetting pads or hydrilla, just assume all three above are the same. 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted July 10, 2024 Super User Posted July 10, 2024 This is a term in bass fishing that confused me when first hearing it. I came to understand weeds vs grass was regional. West and northern regions anglers called all aquatic vegetation weeds. South and eastern regions aquatic vegetation is called grass. Specific aquatic vegetation is broken down into the type like coontail, hydrilla, etc. It’s confusing like most terminology in bass lingo a language of it’s own. Tom 3 Quote
Texas Flood Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 I smoke both. Ohhhhh you were talking about the underwater ones. 6 Quote

Zcoker Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Terms like that get tossed around all the time, fishing in the grass, the lettuce, the weeds, the pads, in the thick of it...all about the green stuff in any particular body of water. There's four major types, floating, submerged, emergent, and algae. Most likely talking about any one of them. Can always shoot off a comment on one of their vids and ask what they mean. Quote

I miss a good northern lawn. 2 Quote
Texas Flood Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 It's a great photo until you realize there's 47 gators underneath. 3 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted July 10, 2024 Super User Posted July 10, 2024 The only term that bugs me is 'seaweed', typically only heard from the same guys that call fishing rods 'poles' 1 Quote

I'd say that checks out. 1 Quote

Texas Flood Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 I actually like gators(my parents had a Caiman when I was a kid) but I prefer to have a 10 finger option instead of 5 for picking my nose. 1 Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted July 12, 2024 Super User Posted July 12, 2024 If I can work my bait through it, then it is good grass. If I have to constantly pick it off my bait, then it is a weed. Quote
