Happybeerbuzz Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 I might even describe it as just slightly short of full. It’s definitely not over spoiled. 2 Quote
Bazoo Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Looks okay to me. I fill mine a bit more than that. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted July 10, 2024 Super User Posted July 10, 2024 It’s hard to tell from the picture. I only own Shimano reels and even in the same model using the same line they don’t always take the same amount of line for optimal performance even on matching rods. Casting over looking will give you the answer. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted July 10, 2024 Super User Posted July 10, 2024 yeah, I'd say you're even a touch under. I take mine right up to where the spool shoulder angle changes. 1 Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted July 10, 2024 Super User Posted July 10, 2024 I also agree with the other who say you could put a little more on. Especially if you're cutting/re-tying often. But you definitely don't have to. How you have it is perfectly fine. 1 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted July 10, 2024 Super User Posted July 10, 2024 For me it depends on what line I have spooled and what I am throwing. For example if I’m throwing a deep diving crank, I’m going to want to make longer casts so I’ll fill the spool to the top. If I’m throwing a C-Rig with heavier line and shorter casts, I’ll leave a little more spool. It also depends on how educated your thumb is…😂 Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 10, 2024 Super User Posted July 10, 2024 At 1st glance it looks OK. Not all bait casting reels are equal regarding spool fill level. I recently spooled line on a very low profile Tatula reel to the level that looked good. After making a dozen or so casts the reel started to cast poorly. The problem turned to be the spooled line loosened slightly and was rubbing on the rod reel seat under the reel. After pulling about 5 yards of the line reel performed good. Tom Quote
