tylervdb Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 As title says, needing some opinions on light inshore bait casters. I’ll be throwing 1/4-1oz in the cape at Carolina Beach and in the bay/canals at Port Charlotte/Punta Gorda. I’ve been looking at a Tranx 200 or Concept TX2. Quote
Super User Further North Posted July 9, 2024 Super User Posted July 9, 2024 I've been using a Shimano Aldebaran for similar size baits. I have it on a ML 7' 9" TFO Inshore rod, works great for smaller tunes up here in Wisconsin. Quote
tylervdb Posted July 9, 2024 Author Posted July 9, 2024 I guess I should have added, this will be used for saltwater inshore exclusively. I purchased the Zodias 5 piece travel medium spinning rod and the medium heavy casting rod a while back. I have a spare 3000 Stradic or 2500 BG to throw on the spinning rod. Just unsure what casting reel to use in the salt. Quote

basscrusher Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 If you're going after redfish, snook and baby tarpon the tranx 200 is fine. If larger tarpon, or big snook, might need to go up a size or 2. I have no experience with the 13. 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 10, 2024 Super User Posted July 10, 2024 Fresh water bass reels in salt water can work if the materials are comparable to salt water. Bearings need to be sealed type, no magnesium, line capacity sufficient the line diameter being used and drag system that doesn’t over heat under strong fish long runs. I would look at coastal reels designed for this purpose. Tom Quote
tylervdb Posted July 11, 2024 Author Posted July 11, 2024 Thank you guys, I’m leaning heavily towards the Tranx 200. I’ll be targeting small snook, small reds, specs, flounder, baby tarpon etc around our condo’s docks at both places mentioned above. I have a 8’3” Daiwa Saltist and 10’ Okuma Voyager for targeting bigger stuff in the surf. Mainly looking for something to throw spoons, paddle tails, rattle traps, top waters, jerk baits etc all 3/8-3/4oz. Quote
