Super User roadwarrior Posted January 14, 2007 Super User Posted January 14, 2007 It's no problemo. The fact that Roland is promoting this thing is just pitiful.
justtrying Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 roland will be at the boat show in the town where my store is, this fri & sat. last year i got a chance to spend a little time with him,,,,maybe this year we can discuss his latest "promo." LOL ronnie
Hawgin Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 I will admit it look ridiculous for him to sponsor this "thing", but I have noticed in the commercial that it is mostly kids using it. Hey, if it gets a kid interested in fishing that otherwise might not be, I'm all for it. After a while with that thing, you can get a kid to use a better set up, and then hopefully they get hooked for life.
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted January 15, 2007 Super User Posted January 15, 2007 Last week, my grandson was telling me about this REALLY COOL fishing gun. I didn't know what the devil he was talking about. Then on the Cartoon Network, this commercial came on and my grandson called me into the room and I saw Roland Martin hawking this crazy thing. I guess if the money is right..................................... Falcon
Pintail55 Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 I will have to agree with Hawgin. My kids love fishing but everytime they see that commercial they get very excited and what to be out on the water. Just beacause I have 1000's of dollars rapped up in fishing gear and boats dosn't mean that I wouldn't buy one of those for my kids. Also why would you lose respect for someone for just earning a living and promoting a product. I'm not looking to argue or be deffensive I guess I just don't understand why him promoting that product takes away from all his achivements and knowledge. Hey look at it this way Dan Marino is promoting nutri-system.
Pa Angler Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 I seen the commercial and it's without question directed to kids I also agree that if it helps children get into fishing it's a go. One of the hardest things for a kid to learn is casting and this will help a child stay interested without frustration while first learning the sport. Children usally have a shorter attention span then an adult and this may help there as well. This is a better idea than Roland's Helicopter Lure. Chow

HPBB Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 I have lost all respect for him. I think he needs $$ real bad. I was watching his show on VS the other day and it was like watching a infomercial. He was making sure that he talk about who made everthing he was using. Made sure the they showed every label. even the cooler he had his drinks in and the towel he used to cool himself off. It was sad
Super User cart7t Posted January 15, 2007 Super User Posted January 15, 2007 At a time when the number of kids entering the sport is on the decline, I'm all for anything that might get them interested in the sport. The gun deal is completely hokey and it's not that surprising Roland would try and hawk the thing.
justfishin Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 I can see where a product like that would get young kids excited about fishing. Hey, it might be a avenue to spark a interest in fishing for young ones. Roland is retired and goodness knows how much he was paid for his endorsement so, I say, have at it Roland. Love him or hate him his stats in the tourney world are undeniable, as well as, very impressive. He was pretty abrasive too me sometimes as well but, that was just his persona. He was a big part of the early years of Bassmaster and tournament fishing as well as being one of the most consistent fishermen there ever was. I say, good luck Roland and enjoy your retirement.
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 15, 2007 Super User Posted January 15, 2007 if i was him i'd be doing the same thing and so would a lot of us.anybody watching it should know it's just to get kids started on thinking about fishing.where it goes from there is up to the child.
JigNBig Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 he is just one big advertisment these days.....smart shield sunscreen on EVERY show,SPRO, ONO sunglasses, and Ambassador reels just to name a few of his many advertisements on every show unlike bill dance or any others
Rattlinrogue Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 First off,I like Roland Martin, but his show is pretty much a 30 minute advertisement. As for the "Gun" rod and reel,it does seem ridiculous to serious bassers, but from what I hear the kids love 'em.If you look at it from the point of view of getting smaller kids interested in fishing,it could be a good thing.I personally don't like all of the ads,but maybe the latest ad will turn on a few more kids to a healthy recreation like fishing.Who knows, years from now many of these former kids will get their kicks from the outdoor activities instead of drugs, booze, and other negative activities.
sodaksker Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Everytime my kids see that ad, they ask me for one. The other day one of the neighbor kids were over and they were talking about it (how cool it was and that they wanted one). I keep telling them "no, no,no those are just junk, if you want a pole I'll buy you one". (even though they already have poles) I wish I would have read this post a little earlier. This is just what I need to get them fired up about fishing. I'll tie on a beetlespin and let them blast that thing all over the lake. I hope they make to the spring before they are off the market. Hopefully they will be on sale too. Thanks for helping me out of the box guys.
dave Posted January 16, 2007 Posted January 16, 2007 At the fishing show I attended this past weekend, Jimmy Houston did about ten minutes of a co,edy routine. He was ten minutes late. He said that he had some problems with the toilet paper roll in the men's room. He said that if some one would invent a toilet paper roll with adjustable breaks on it like a reel, he would endorse it. I thought to myself that he needed to do it quickly before Roland Martin heard about it and beats him to it.
