spin casting vrs spinning gear

Was having a conversation with a friend the other day about why i think spinning gear is better then spin casting. He has used spin casting all his life and i personaly think they are crap and only for little kids. I only ever used then for a little while until i switched to spinning at age 6. I am trying to convince my friend to give the spinning a try.

My reasons were

You get a knot inside the reel and it is a huge pain in the ***.

Doesnt look like you can put as much line on it.

For some dumb reason the cover has to be on the reel to reel in.

Line comes off spool and comes in contact with other pieces of the reel twice before coming out and i imagine this caused friction and decreases the cast.

Reels dont seem that smooth.

Also i am not sure if the rods are any differnt then baitcasting rods but his rods just seemed like crap.

He may just have crappy and old gear though also i am not sure. He dad is cheap and huge *** hole and all his gear was bought by him.

Can anyone think of any other reasons?

I would avoid telling him his reel is "crap" and the way he fishes is childish. The best way to help your friend is let him try yours out for a while. You may not like spincasters, but they work and have caught a lot of fish. You are right, there are some real problems with reliability and line twist, friction, etc., but they will catch fish. Try to communicate what is positive about spinning reels. If this fails, then let him fish with his reel and enjoy your fishing time together, it's no big deal. Lead by example, he will come around if he really enjoys fishing. I hope this helps. JMHO

Spincasting reels are considered "entry level." Manufacturers have not devoted any effort to advancing the technology over the years. Forty years ago the Zebco was King, I think it still is.

I agree that spinning is far superior, but I don't see where you have a problem. If your friend is happy, so be it. If you and he fish together, he can see the differences first-hand and make his decision.

I remember taking a Zebco 202 fishing for carp and catfish when I was around nine or ten. Those were some of the best days of my childhood. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with muddy finger prints on them and warm Cokes. Hotter than heck out. You and your best buds leaning on a tree. AHHHHH, it makes my heart warm to think of those days. I also remember when we stepped up to 808 Zebcos and thought we had the best reels ever. So, there was and still is a place for those old spincasters. I am sure that somewhere there will be kids along a river or creek this year as well with a spincaster creating some memories.

My zebco 202 retired a couple of years ago. I remember I fought a couple of sea fish with it, small trevallies, barracudas and threadfin salmon. They were up to the job, unfortunately it siffered from corrosion on the bell housing and I had to let it go!

As already mentioned, spincasting is an entry-level reel, although my first spinning reel was a Mitchell 300 cap.

Truthfully, the only reason I opted for an open-face spinning reel was because I anticipated getting snarls

and wanted to be able to see them and pick them out.

I never look down-my-nose at another angler's gear: it may be something that he personally prefers,

it may be all that he can afford, but on top of that, it won't prevent him from catching more bass than you or I

I convinced him not to try and spinning reel. Now we just need some nice weather for him to practice with. Also, hes got more money then me but i go to school at a great place to fish. I also make fun of him and say he cant fish for crap because of that stuff because he gets angry easily and what are friends for anyways? :
