Super User ChrisD46 Posted July 4, 2024 Super User Posted July 4, 2024 I’ve learned the hard way that a frog fisherman for bass need more than one frog rod : A heavy action rod for vegetation and a MH action for open water (sometimes a MH rod can work for sparse vegetation) . Also I usually associate frogg’n for bass with fast action rods (always with braid) but lately I see moderate action rods being used in videos with frogs which I find interesting - maybe if helps with the hook set delay … The above said , what are your current specific frog rods for vegetation as well as open water applications ? 1 Quote
Cgrinder Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 P5 Super Destroyer, for both open water and heavy cover. X10 Swamp Survivor, for matted veg at a longer distance. If I didn't have mats, I would carry just the P5. Honorable mention to the X10 Destruction 66, which is the rod I would have purchased if I didn't need this rod for punching as well. Moderate frog rods are good, especially in close combat situations. Shorter rods make life on the bank easier, but you do give up a little leverage. 100 mm handles help. 1 Quote

Any signature frog rod users from the big names ? My current frog rod is a Dobyns Siera 735C which is fine for open water frog'n but probably just okay to use in heavier vegetation . This is one area where I am beginning to believe having a dedicated frog rod for vegetation may be best along with going with a two-frog rod set up to include open water frog'n . 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted July 5, 2024 Super User Posted July 5, 2024 When I decided on a dedicated frog rod, I went HF. Never considered fishing open water other than dragging it through open spots in the lily pads. I agree a MHF is plenty good enough for open water. Maybe I'll try a frog in open water. After all, I doubt the fish will realize I'm using a frog for top water rather than something like a Super Spook. Quote
Bandersnatch Posted July 6, 2024 Posted July 6, 2024 73xh expride 7’7 H expride both are lights out awesome. I suppose you could say the 7’7h could be used for open water but it’s also a great heavy grass rod. So good I’ve needed two of both. Quote
