buckmaster27012 Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 Are the hooks on the stunna jerkbaits just junk or what? I've had to replace the hooks on three different baits in the last two weeks. What should I be using as a replacement for better hook up? It seems the dinks have no problem getting to the boat but larger fish I keep losing them, I'm not sure if its how they are hitting the bait or what. Some of them come up and throw it but some just can tell by feel they are better fish. May need to be looking at a different brand. Thanks 1 Quote
rgasr63 Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 You already have ewg hooks but the BKK spear ewg hook is about the most aggressive ewg that I know of. It already is a sinking bait but you might compare the sink rate of 1 size bigger hooks to see if it works for you. If they are just slapping at the bait maybe a color change would work. That would be my first thing to try IMHO. There are some guys who know jerkbaits a lot better than myself who might chime in soon. Quote
HOV02 Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 I can't find ST-76 in any sizes smaller than 3/0, are they discontinued or something? Quote

Super User FryDog62 Posted July 5, 2024 Super User Posted July 5, 2024 I haven't had issues with Stunna hooks, been pretty productive for me and landing fish. Questions I have are - Are you using a rod with some parabolic action and "give," and non-braided line? A rod that is too fast and/or using braid with treble hooks can lead to lost fish. Also proper drag setting helps... Those jerk bait hooks (on all brands) are light wire and sometimes fairly small and easy to tear out with the wrong equipment/settings. 1 Quote

I have not had much luck with the Stunna lures but the few fish I have caught have been stuck pretty well. The hooks seem solid to me. For replacements I like the Owner ST-36's, the Ryugi Pierce and the Gamakatsu G-Finesse hooks depending on the jerkbait. I am thinking the same though. Braid will pop fish off easily especially if they jump. Also as you mentioned, the rod as well could be a factor. Quote
