i always hear 1 piece rods are better then 2 piece but what makes this so? I am basicaly stuck with 2 piece rods because i am a college student who travels a lot and has a small saturn that always has various junk in it. So until i can sit still in my life the 2 piece rods is the way to go for me.

thanks,

Mike

1 piece rods are stronger than the 2 piece rods.  You have a very good chance of having the 2 piece rod coming apart when either hooking or landing a bass or other big fish.

You can get a 1 piece rod for just about the same cost of a 2 piece rod in certain brand names.

My experience has been that you also lose some sensitivity with a 2 piece rod.  However, when you are in a situation where it is all you can use, you figure out a way to make it work for you.  Someday after you have mastered the two piece rod, just think how much better angler you will be when you get in a position to use stronger, more sensitive one piece rod.

We've all been there at one time or another... at least you are stuck there in a time when decent rods are available to you.  When I was there, all the ferrules were made of mild steel and chrome plated...

Don't worry about it.  Sure a 1 pc. may be stronger or more sensitive but until you can carry 1 piece rods around, this discussion will only discourage you.

Unless you spend most of your time worm and jig fishing, you probably couldn't even tell the difference if you were blindfolded.  (and even then I bet less than 50% of anglers could tell)

Due to the ferrules at the joint, any takedown rod will have a dead spot,

whereas the flex of a one-piece rod is a true parabola.

Practically speaking though, it's not likely that a blindfolded man

could identify one from the other.

In favor of two-piece rods is 'portability'. In the car, on an airplane, etc.

the takedown rod is much less obtrusive.

When it comes to handling rods indoors, I am the world's worst!!!

If there's an overhead fan 'anywhere' in the house, my rod-tip will eventually find it.

Most of my rods are 6-foot and 1-piece, but if they were 7-ft long I'd be in BIG trouble! :)

If I can get my 7'11" swimbait rods into my girlfriends Honda CRX, you should be able to sneak a 1 piece worm rod into a saturn!

I have one rod that is 2 piece, but it is 9'6" so whats a guy to do...

Your two pieces will probably carry you through just fine

It easy, just stuff the rod-tip through the stripper guide ;D

the difference is that sometimes u can cast the upper piece of ur rod together with ur lure

done that in a tournament , but lucky me i was able 2 retrieve it back

I have never felt at a disadvantage using my 2 piece St. Croix Premier casting rod while bass fishing.  I felt no sensitivity difference's either.  Its been plenty strong enough to catch not only bass but Snook, Reds and Tarpon too.

I can fit a 1piece in my saturn however, i live in a dorm and that car acts as basicaly another closet. Holds fishing stuff, work stuff, cloths, books, just basicaly a little of everything. Also u add a friend or 2  in there with that and that makes a bad situation.
