Trying to decide if I want to spend $50 more (my cost) for a zillion over my cutado 150 mgl,

in all fairness, I haven given my curago 150 mgl much use or a fair shot but I personally find myself always reaching for a zillion rigged combo.

Zillion has the 34mm swapable spools

Zillion cast farther ?

W r talking jdm zillion,

I've got both, and while the Curado 150mgl is a nice real, it's not even in the same league as the Zillion.

The thing I can't get past with the Curado 150mgl is the geary feeling, the Zillion will straight ruin you in regard to how smooth a baitcaster can be.

Great price on some of them, but not so much on my lefties.

Looks like I may need to go check Digitaka! (I really don't, but there goes @bulldog1935 tempting me again!! 😁)

As for the original question,... I really like the Curado MGL. My Zillion is smoother, but at least in my case, it doesn't cast quite as far as my MGL, and I still keep bumping the brake dial on the Zillion.

The Zillion IS smoother though!!!

My experience is like yours and others that have commented. I've tried really hard to get into Shimanos, including several Curados, and some of them are smooth... but many of them aren't. I end up using my Daiwas more.

Go for the Zillion.

Based on spool platform which reel should be able to throw. 1/2oz frog further?

Well,... I've never thrown a frog on either of mine because my 2 Curado MGLs and my Zillion are all 6spd reels.

I can say they both have about the same line capacity. My MGLs seem to cast a bit farther than the Zillion but the Zillion is smoother.

I have my Zillion on a St Croix Legend Glass and the Curados on Dobyns Champion 705cb rods. My Zillion is smoother for reeling the crankbaits so I like it best for that, but if you are frogging, smoothness may not be as important and you may like the slightly longer casting.

You honestly can't go wrong with either though!!

One thing, Daiwa comes with their shielded spool microbearings (left).

Replace these with KTF/IXA dual-race wide-range microbearings (right), and Zillion will cast 1/2-oz frog so far it will frighten you.

While it takes a Japan broker to buy from KTF, MC-squared makes their version you can buy direct from Hedgehog.

Why do you have to threaten me with a good time. On a 7’7 rod with a back wind I still found I could only dial down the zillion so much before getting spool overrun with 131 or silent flip braid. Are you saying these bearings are going to prevent spool overrun?

I have to thumb my Zillion to keep out out of my friends across a tide pass casting 1/8 oz.

How you set your brakes is up to you.  If you dial it down too much and it results in start-up backlash, um, don't do that.  From direct trials, the bearings I suggested will add 10+% distance to your cast - the difference is both at the start and the finish.

It's oranges in an apple conversation, but my latest BFS on Steez and Silver Wolf with AMO and Roro-X non-SV spools, full-silicon-nitride bearings, fixed inductor mass are both so small, have to run brake dial at 10 to 12.  It doesn't matter when you're casting 1/16 oz past 130'

I'll admit backlash is a little hard for me to fathom (can describe all the physics).  It never happens to me on the water - the only time I get close is intentionally searching for incipient backlash when I'm setting up a reel on the back-acre casting range - may even add a little bad habit to test the result.  45 years of cast stroke and thumb are involved.

Don't do it.  The Bait Monkey moved to Japan and is living the good life.  He gets an angler to buy one Zillion then you are hooked.  I was so happy with my less expensive reels, then I bought a Zillion, and now I check the price on Digikita daily.   I cast just as far with my other reels, I catch as many fish with my other reels, I am now obsessed with smoothness, which doesn't help my fishing in the least, but gives me a warm feeling all over.  Warm feelings don't catch bass.

Shoot, my Zillion sends a Gavacho frog even with stock bearings.

Any well setup quality baitcast reel can allow casts 1/2> further than you want to set a hook on a frog. Concentrate on solid frame and good drag.
