I just got a new daiwa zillion 7.1:1 and don't know what rod to put with it. I need some help from you guys on what rod it should go on. I'm looking in the $100-$250 range. Not sure what I will be using it for so any info will be helpful.

I have been pondering a high speed set up and the Zillion is one of the reels I have been looking at.

I too like the choice of the MBR844C IMX or maybe the MBR843C.

I would be interested to know how the reel and your rod choice work out together, so keep us posted.

I'll keep you informed FishTank. I've been looking at both rods that your looking at but I'm also looking at a g-loomis crankbait.

Sneaky,  the CBR843 would be a sweet set up, however, would the 7.1 be a little fast for cranks? I am contemplating a Zillion too, but I have spinnerbaits in mind.

If I end up getting the 7.1:1 Zillion, I'll probably use it for top water buzzbaits, spinning baits and frogs.  When I think of a moderate crank bait rod, I'm thinking of a slower reel to go with it, like the Curado 200DPV with a 5:1 ratio.  If your going to just fish lipless cranks, you'll probably be OK.  But if it were me and that was my intention, I would go with the 6.3:1 Zillion instead just because it maybe more versatile.

Go with the Loomis 843, 844, or 853, get the best you can afford.  I have a Zillon 7.1 on all, because the bait monkey is my co-pilot.  I don't think you'll be able to get that smile off your face.

If your thinking a St croix. Go to their web site. Click on rods, and there is a chart that will ask you questions on where, what and how you will be fishing. Then at the bottom of the page it will tell you what rods they have for that style of fishing and what they recomend
