Bazoo Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 I ran out of Zoom Finesse Worms in Green Pumpkin and went looking for more, but they were out. I found something close, but with red flecks; Watermelon Red. What's everyone else's experience with similarly colored soft plastics? Are the red flecks great or not? Have you ever experienced a time that switching from a bait with red flecks to one without, or without red flecks to one with, has changed the bite? 2 Quote
flatcreek Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 Watermelon Red is a great color for bass in Ga. 2 Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted July 2, 2024 Super User Posted July 2, 2024 Watermelon Red is a color a lot of people love but it has never worked for me. I have Zoom Finesse Worms in several colors but not Watermelon Red so I can't give you an honest review on how well they will work for you. 2 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 3, 2024 Super User Posted July 3, 2024 I usually have better luck with watermelon red when the water is on the clearer side. 4 Quote
Super User bowhunter63 Posted July 3, 2024 Super User Posted July 3, 2024 Yea they hit it when it’s hot Quote
Functional Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 I have better luck with watermelon red than I do GP in any water clarity I'd throw GP. As I deplete my GP baits I've been replacing them with watermelon red. Quote
Buzzbaiter Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 It’s a solid color. It’s shows up nicely in tannic water and clear water alike. Not my first choice for turbid water, but I’m sure the bass would still eat it. Not a thing wrong with watermelon red; it gets bit Quote
Super User Catt Posted July 3, 2024 Super User Posted July 3, 2024 We call it Watermelon Neon & dip the tail in Dip-N-Glo Chartreuse Garlic. I have that color in every plastic I own. 3 Quote

One of my least favorite colors, mainly because it has never produced well for me in any water color. I’d take GP over it any day. Probably mental…. Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 3, 2024 Super User Posted July 3, 2024 Don’t know about Zoom but Jackall Flip Shake 4.8 watermelon candy wacky rigged is a go to for me. Tom 2 Quote

I won't say never because bass will hit most anything dropped on their noses. Reaction strike. Besides that, GP, dark watermelons like Yamamoto, and black/blues get much more attention around here when they have time to see it/chase it. Otherwise, Watermelon red flake is a Pickeral magnet around here. 2 Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 The only watermelon red I really like is reins, because its a darker watermelon with a higher opacity, other than that, partial to watermelon seed or dark watermelon, but I would bet that most of the fish that will hit GP will likely hit watermelon red. Generally if I want fleck, its blue, purple, candy or magic, but I think that's a case of me being attracted to them more so than the fish. I haven't done any extensive testing comparisons when it comes to red fleck vs other colors, I just use what works initially and build off that. Regardless of my preferences, watermelon red is an undisputed top color. There isn't a serious brand on the market that doesn't offer it. 1 Quote
rangerjockey Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 I use it more than green pumpkin. Shaky head or drop shot . Personally I always use a Zoom marker to color the tail chartreuse. 2 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted July 3, 2024 Super User Posted July 3, 2024 Zoom Tricks in watermelon red is my top producing Trick. Hands down. Always in my tackle bag and on the boat. 3 Quote

Global Moderator Mike L Posted July 3, 2024 Global Moderator Posted July 3, 2024 If I had to rank my worm colors it would probably be my 3rd favorite. It’s alright, it’ll catch fish all things being equal but water color is more critical for it. Mike 5 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted July 3, 2024 Super User Posted July 3, 2024 @Mike LI’ll add that pretty much all the waters I fish are stained. I’ve never used this color in clear, unstained waters so that may be a different story. 2 Quote

I put more emphasis on the combination of bait type, depth, presentation and then color. Case in point red/shad will outperform watermelon/red almost every time when swimming a worm but not on the bottom regardless of the water color. June bug is my #1 color hands down, but when a running into an area of clearer water I’ll change the color before making another cast but it’s only based on what I’m using at that point I don’t change colors just because I’m not getting hit, what I’m throwing and how I’m throwing it will determine that. Gotta go with Black or a dark Green Pumpkin for just about everything. Sometimes red works but nothing on any lighter greens like this or Baby Bass colored. 2 Quote
FellowAnglers1 Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 Watermelon red is one of my favorite color beside green pumpkin or watermelon. Killing it on jig skirt or trailer, senkos, and zoom trick worm. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 3, 2024 Super User Posted July 3, 2024 Watermelon red flake was the color before green pumpkin. Out west greens were not popular until the hand pour green weenie became the go to color. Green weenie was what is now called watermelon with a cinnamon brown belly plus various flake colors. Green Weenie with black and blue flake is still a killer color when bass are targeting Bluegills. Tom 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 3, 2024 Global Moderator Posted July 3, 2024 Watermelon when it’s sunny, Green Pumpkin when it’s cloudy. I’ve had good luck with it but I like watermelon/purple or blue flake better. 2 Quote
Pat Brown Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 Motoroil Red Flake/Junebug/Plum are my favorites but I also like chartreuse pepper, watermelon neon, redbug, junebug neon, and smoke purple neon black. 2 Quote
