Android vs Apple and beyond

Not sure if this is the right place but I’m getting a bit tired of my current phone not even letting me swear a bit…… what’s the most free phone platform. Moderators I’m sorry if this isn’t the correct spot

You’ve got two options iOS and Android.  You didn’t say what you’re currently using.  If you don’t like it maybe you need to try other.  I’m an Apple guy,  Mac,  iPhone,  iPad,  Apple Watch,  Apple TV.  It all works well together.  I wish they made fishing stuff,  lol.

LOL. Apple will be more restrictive on a lot of things.

Android is a bit more ... free. Within limits.

 

I was an Apple guy for about 25 years. One day my eldest

son and I went to the phone store to upgrade iPhones. 

Couldn't afford two of them, no deals. So we bought a BOGO

LG G7 and haven't looked back to iPhones since. That deal

was $750 for two (then) flagship phones vs. about $1800 for

two iPhones. Family couldn't afford to stay with iPhones.

 

I do love me a good MacBook Pro, iMac, iPad. But darn it if

my Chromebook isn't as productive for general computing, 

browsing, watching videos, and much more. And it has a 

touch-screen. Yep, I'm one of those who love touch-screens.

 

And my field is IT - prior to Covid I was an all Apple all the time

guy managing a (now defunct) Apple-centric web site. FWIW, 

which is about 2 pence worth of dirt. Steve Jobs' Apple is gone.

All our kids are iPhone, but me and the Mrs. are Android. I have built my own computers (windows based) since 2000. 

 

We do have iPads for our tablet experience.

 

Find what works best for you and your family. Lots out there to experience.

I use an apple phone and my wife has a tablet but I prefer a PC for laptop computer.

 

You don’t need to upgrade apple phones every time they come out with one. They do frequent software updates on all their products so an old one is very similar to a new one. I still have one from 2018, just replaced the battery for the second time.

I like Samsung (android) for phones, as I think they have the best display.. that (display) weighs heavily for me.

 

For pc's I like windows.  

For tablets, I give the big edge to apple. Never found an android tablet I like.

Check out the Google Pixel phones, mid priced android and not alot of installed apps to drown you with on your screen. I still use a google phone made for them by Huawei called NEXUS 6P, bought it brand new in 2016 and still original battery and the first and only smart phone i own, the year 2017 Google renamed their flagship phone the Pixel.

My wife, boys, stepdaughter's and daughters in law all have iPhones. I'm all android. Such a creature of habit, I learned on an android and it's easy for me. Sure not gonna change now.

I was just venting, and yes I forgot to say I have an iPhone. I had Samsung a few phones ago and at least when you texted a word it didn’t like you could click on it and it would remember the word. I swype text and that’s probably the main issue lol. Anyways again….. I was just venting and most people I fish with drop the occasional curse word so I figured why not here!

Haha. A friend has android, not sure who but yeah his phone won't let him cuss lol. I have apple and i can drop any bombs i want. Kids have google phones and i think they can cuss too.

Fundamentally there isn't a lot of difference.  Apple over charges for everything, but from a usability standpoint you can almost do anything on either.  The exception of course are some bits of software that will only run on one or the other.  The closed down architecture of the Apple makes me use an Android as I use it to control: my garage doors, lights, music in every room, tv's, security system, cameras, doorbells, NAS storage video/music, appliances and so on.  Music on an Apple is a disaster so if you collect any amount of it, Android is a way better choice.  The other unique capability is utilizing software to control some legacy home automatoin products that will never be supported on an apple.

 

And of course if you are into open source or free things instead of monthly services Android wins hands down.

My biggest complaint with Apple is the planned obsolescence.  After a few years your old devices will not get new features even if they are fully capable of providing them.  I can’t see myself ever using Android because Google is basically a spyware company.   They don’t share your information with other companies but they remember everything and use it for their advertising.  If they control your phone they have the opportunity to gather a lot of information about you.

 

Apple really won me over about 10 years ago.  I had 4 year old Mac that was out of warranty.  I got an email saying they were recalling the hard drive in my computer because of the high rate of failures they were seeing.  Mine was working fine but they replaced it free.  This was a 4 terabyte Fusion drive and it was not cheap to replace.

Can't stand anything made by Apple, never have, never will. 

 

My cell phone provider is Straight Talk®, I have better ccoverage than any of the big name companies. During hurricane Laura I had coverage everywhere while my wife & kids could only play games on their I-phone.

I knew I liked you for a reason.

 

If it's Apple, I don't want a thing to do with it...and the only Micro-snert thing I have is the OS on my desktop and laptop otherwise it's 3rd party apps. Phone has been Samsung since the mid 90s, with service from AT&T - camping in the late 90s/early 00s, out in the boonies of Kansas, people kept wanting to borrow my phone cause theirs (Verizon, Sprint, etc) didn't have service while mine did.
