DaubsNU1 Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 On Sunday a Dad and his grade school sons were fishing a panfish and bass tournament...they were tossing worms on a bobber in to flooded timber in about 5 feet of water, trying to land some bluegills. Bobber sank, and Dad set the hook with ultra-light rod and 6# test. Thankfully his son was pretty good on the net...landed 3lb-10oz largemouth(!) Got me thinking of running a slip-bobber to a wacky-Senko back in the trees. Anyone have luck slip-bobbering for LMBs? 2 Quote
Super User gim Posted July 2, 2024 Super User Posted July 2, 2024 I've heard of this tactic over weeds when there is a good chop on the water. I've never done it myself but I could see it working. The waves would give that wacky rigged stickbait some natural action. The stickbait would have to be pretty close to the tops of the weeds though. Flat calm, I don't see it being very effective. It would just sit there. 1 Quote
Pogues2300 Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 I hope it catches on so we can see bobber fishing at the classic! 1 2 Quote

Nice thing about slip bobbers...give the line a twitch and the lure comes up several inches before the bobber moves appreciably. So basically you could 'jig' the wacky worm under the bobber to impart action. 1 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted July 2, 2024 Super User Posted July 2, 2024 True. You could give the classic "pop" of the rod which would vertically move the stick bait. If you want to sit back, kick your feet up, drink some beer, and wait, I would do it with a good chop on the water. Anchor above the structure and let the wind/waves roll it into the target area. 1 Quote

I'm too impatient to kick back and drink a beer...but I like the idea of fishing this in some chop while spot-locked up wind. 1 Quote
rgasr63 Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 It works I tried it with 3 in BPS stick-o 4 ft deep.you need a little bit of wind waves to get it to dance all on its own. A quick little jerkbait action pop will make it dance really well. 1 1 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted July 2, 2024 Super User Posted July 2, 2024 I guess when I decide that dropshot isn't boring enough.... 5 Quote
Chilidog Posted July 2, 2024 Posted July 2, 2024 I have had some good days when fishing with the kids using a bobber and a wacky worm. Like others have said fishing in a little chop or twitch the bobber. I think it is more effective with a 4 inch senko. At least that has been the case for me. 1 Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 Ive done really well throwing superlight micro plastics under a float. 1 Quote
Fishin Dad Posted July 3, 2024 Posted July 3, 2024 A lot of people use a hair jig under a float. Just a little action and hair pulses. That is what WRB was getting at. 1 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted July 3, 2024 Super User Posted July 3, 2024 A lot of people slay the smallmouth around here on a float n fly. I probably shouldn’t be sharing that. 🤫 1 Quote
