MH Spinning Rod Users ?

Most spinning rods used are in the ML to M - fast , extra fast camp ... Anyone use a MH  F , XF spinning rod - if so , what technique ?

I use a MH/F spinner primarily for skipping jigs or weighted soft swimbaits as I can't skip with casting gear worth a d**n.

 

I'll also do light pitching, it's a second spinner/plopper rod and even work swim jigs with it.

I use a MHF for everything, because I'm bank fishing and only want to carry one rod. I mostly use a 6-6, but also have a 6. I tried a 7MH once, but it was no good for the lighter stuff like t-rigged worms on a 1/16 oz bullet. I've got several 7 mediums, but don't like them for hooksets on soft plastics. I never cared for ML stuff. I don't do neds or wacky rigs. I do occasionally throw small stuff like grubs or beetlespins, small spinnerbaits.

 

A MH doesn't pose any problems for me with any technique or type of lure I use. I can't see the advantage of lighter rods, other than casting distance. I guess ignorance is bliss. I don't care to learn what I'm missing.

 You and I are exactly alike. I have two MH 6'6 Ugly Stiks that take up 95% of my fishing. One is for weightless stickbaits, trick worms, or lizards. The other is rigged with a 1/8oz bullet weight, bead, and a #1 EWG to pitch the finesse worms or curly tail rigs. I love the rods.

I have a 6'8" XFast MH St. Croix Avid (old model). I use it for tubes mainly but it handle pretty much any soft plastic.

I bought a couple MH/F spinning rods for when I have guests on my boat who can't use a baitcaster. I let them use them for topwaters, texas rigs, etc.

I have a couple of MH/F spinning rods. I use them mostly for Senkos and Texas rigged trick Worms.

My 2-piece shimano compre is a MH spinning rod. It’s pretty much an all arounder. It can easily handle heavier drop shot, crankbaits that dive about 6’ are not an issue. It also easily drives a weightless senko home and  it doesn’t sweat a 1/4 oz Trig plastic of any kind. Hard jerk baits and top water poppers too. Not much can’t do, including jig head and a plastic.

That’s almost exactly how I use mine too. Primarily for skipping plastics under docks. A MH rod has the back bone to pull a sizable fish out of there. Anything less does not. I’ve tried.

I use a MH for flukes with a heavy wire Gamakatsu 4/0 superline screw lock hook.

The reason for spinning gear is I can't skip with casting gear 😞

I have several mh/f spinning rods and I usually have one in my hand most of the time. Flippin and frogging needs a hvy rod and a baitcaster. Heavy t-rigs and jigs I use a mh/xf and a baitcaster.

I have a medium heavy abu Garcia Zenon spinning rod setup I use for mainly skipping docks with weighted wacky senkos. I like the extra power for getting em out under docks and use ten pound braid to ten or 12 pound flouro. A casting rod would work fine, but I prefer a spinning reel for skipping just for the forgiveness.

I get a lot of MH use inshore but not so much for FW anymore.  They can be really good for soft plastics that are bit heavy or thick to punch through for a M power, like 5" senkos or flipping tubes.

Im with ya. I use MH spinning rods to skip jigs and flukes in cover alot. Just seems easier than stopping to clear birds nests every three casts.

But I have to add I am getting better using BFS bait casters though..

I’m in the same boat, can’t skip a baitcaster to save my soul. I’ll wad one up faster than a parking ticket. ( just kidding, I pay my parking tickets) then wad them up. 
Mine is a MH 6’6” Ugly Stick like @OmegaDPW with braid, for around docks. Wacky rigged senko style bait is my favorite for skipping.

Yes, for shakeyheads and 5” senkos, wacky or neko rigged. I’m usually throwing those baits around docks and brush, I feel like a MH gives me a better chance of getting them out or getting a good hook set on a long cast.

i'm also a bankie, and carrying multiple rods just is a pain to me.  i also love the simplicity of spinning gear.  and i don't really get the other guys who fish the same pond. they use ultra light gear.  i prefer using bigger baits, not the small ones. i'm trying to get bigger fish. trying is the operative word here, but  everyone is getting basically dinks

I prefer MH spinning for ripping weeds on Neko rigs or Jig Worm/Ned rigs. With spinning, I'm holding the rod directly, where bait caster gets fatiguing palming the reel and holding the rod.

what sort of line do you guys use?  i've been happy with yellow hi vis braid --- around 20#? i use a m spinning rod....  might be interesting to break out my mh one.  i hadn't really thought of using it - since casting with it might not be as fun as my m........  and i'm experimenting with skipping. i just ....... like when i was a kid, trying to skip rocks...........  i've never considered skipping baits with a bait caster.  seems like it would be difficult.

10# hi viz braid with 10# mono leader. I've tried 15# and 20# and lost a lot of casting distance. The only time my PowerPro 10# breaks is on snags, and 99% of the time the leader breaks first.

I can't skip with a baitcaster either.

My MH comes out once the weeds start to thicken up, same time the ML gets put away. It gets heavier baits then I use on the M’s but lighter then I use the baitcasters for. For the most art bigger plastics.

 

Put on HI Vis yellow in 15 lb late last year, after using it thru the spring I removed it and went back to dark green 832. It could well just be a lack of confidence in the yellow, but it sure felt like I caught less with it so off it went.

 

If it matters, I use leaders if there are pickerel in the pond.

I use MH and Heave spinning rod for several reasons.  First is casting distance for covering more water.  The second reason is for casting into the wind.  I am not the worlds best bait caster so the spinning rod helps me a little.  The third reason is like everyone else mentioned, casting light lures under or near docks.
