gopherbass Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 This past season I was forced to utilize all of my patience tolerating a Quantum 861PTxm that would intermittently squeak on both the cast and retrieve. While playing with the reel the other night, I isolated the source of said squeak to the cast control knob. All else equal, the squeak would come and go depending on how I adjusted the cast control. Seems like the reel needs some oil somewhere. However, I have never read anything about oiling the cast control. Has anyone run into anything similar? Please advise. Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 gopherbass, Oiling the cast control is easy. Dry friction points are the main cause for squeaking. Remove the cap, look at the shim that is located in the cap add 1 drop of oil to the shim. I would go one more step and remove the bearing under the cap and clean and re-lube it with one drop of good oil.... As far as squeaking on the retrieve, this is usually caused by dry pivot points in the crank handle paddles. Oil placed on each paddle post should take care of that noise. BAITCAST MAINTENANCE Tight Lines!!! Quote
