What does my generation know about sonar?

As a structure fisherman we're trying to get a 3D image of what's below the surface. Down imaging, side imaging, & foward facing sonar gives me that image I want.

55 years on Toledo Bend I got a way point or two. Before side imaging & foward facing sonar I had two choices to locate the bass. One I had to idle over them which has been proven to Spook a percentage. Two I had to use the fish finder tied to my rod. Now I can locate em from a distance.

Now I will address Josh Jones, yes he is an outstanding big fish guy. But I hate to burst y'all's bubble but we've had those guys around for years.

I feel like going old school makes a person a better fisherman. The only problem is that there isn’t any way to tell bottom structure.  However, fishing is one way.  Course that takes time. The more time spent fishing the better fisherman you become.

I'm a primitive angler. I don't even use a motor or anchor, much less electronics. This is largely due to the water I fish. I don't fish water with ramps, so I have to carry everything to the water and I'm old. Thus, no heavy anchor, even heavier battery, or even heavier motor. Now, if I towed a boat with a motor, I still don't think I'd use FFS because I think bass need to take a break from us and electronics in the ocean have given fish no place to hide and they're disappearing.

FOR ME, i think ffs is a step too far. if other people want to use it go for it. we all want a different experience from our fishing, and i may change my mind later. i sure do love my si, di mapping and 360 though. with those i can locate structure and fish position myself on said structure or fish and assure that my bait is going into a likely fish holding spot. is there one there and will he bite. well thats the fun of it for me.

FFS is rocking the boat and a lot of people don’t like it when the boat rocks.  The screens on my boat give me information.  You can’t learn without information.  There are of course many  sources of information but FFS gives us information that we’ve never had before.  You’re never too old to learn if you have the right attitude.   If Rick Clunn can learn from FFS so can the rest of us.  He’s wise enough and humble enough to admit that he still has a lot to learn.
