I fished from 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., catching 36 for a 12 bass per hour average or one every five minutes. I wanted to fish my T-rigged KVD green pumpkin worm, but didn't get a single hit. For the first 2.5 hours, they were also indifferent to my underspins with Mayors and my popper. They wanted a Whopper Plopper. I kept trying the others, but finally gave up and gave them what they wanted. My first fish was a chubby smallie. Not long, but well fed. The largies were nothing big, but lots of solid, healthy, hard-fighting fish. I caught them on a flat, on the edge of lily pad groupings, up a narrow river, and in shoreline indentations. I also caught quite a few in the middle of nothing. So, the bass really do tell us what they want and I was determined to not listen, but eventually they got through my thick skull.

I'm glad you look beyond the bass and appreciate their home, Tom. I do too. Sometimes I just stop fishing to sigh with happiness.

I think thats the difference between kayak/non motored boats and motor boats is (or maybe my inexperience showing). A non motored boat you kind of have limited areas to try and really need to key in on what they want. While a motor boat you can fish 2-3 types of bait you really like and just find an area with bass that want that. This is something I'm very guilty of.

@Functional agreed, but I think it depends where you got your start...

Growing up I bank fished, then finally got a belly boat...then a buddy had a canoe.

I've had a boat since 2000...but still tend to slow down, work certain areas, try to key on what they want.

Strong work @ol'crickety!! That's a heck of a morning!!!

So, in a canoe, I must bend to the bass's will, but in a motorized boat, you can eventually find the bass that heed your choice. I think you're right!

Thanks, @DaubsNU1! It was fun, even though the bass wouldn't listen to me.

You’re killing me with all these great pics! I love your locale and the scenery. If I lived close to that, I’d be worthless….. fishing all the time & getting nothing else done. 😂🤣

FWIW, I too am guilty of fishing history and trying to force feed the bass what they don’t want that particular day. I think every fisher person is guilty of it at some point.

It is beautiful here. What my photos don't convey are the loons singing, the ospreys' battle cry, and the pine-scented air. Yesterday, I had one neighbor send me a photo of a bear in his yard and another of a bobcat in her yard.

Nice morning and beautiful spot. Thanks for sharing. I like to take time to enjoy the scenery as well. Often times, from the bank, there are flowers and butterflies.

Just yesterday I was enjoying watching the bluegill in the shallows follow my minnow around. Sometimes me and the boy will throw them a few live worms, they always want that for some reason!

Whenever they won't take what I'm offering, I fish it more furiously! Then I try other stuff, often not finding what they want. I'm still figuring out how to figure out what they want when the old standbys ain't working.

If only you weren’t so stubborn, you’d have caught a decent number of fish. 🤪😂👍🏻

Ha! Here's a just-taken photo of me heading down to fish, the stubborn Old Mule of Maine:

Me too, brother, me too, which is why I launch with five to seven rods, all rigged with different lures.

I could have sworn that about 4 years ago all of the bass got together and said, “No more falling for that Whopper Plopper thing.” 😀

I know. I keep expecting it to stop working. I don't think it works as well as it did a couple years ago, but here and there, it's what they want. I try to mix up my underspins too, so they don't become indifferent to them. For example, I used a fluke this morning.
