Super User ChrisD46 Posted June 27, 2024 Super User Posted June 27, 2024 For pitching soft plastic stick worms , beaver baits , etc. for bass into and around vegetation - what is your current favorite 3/0 ~ 4/0 straight shank hook with a good soft plastic keeper on it ? 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted June 27, 2024 Global Moderator Posted June 27, 2024 I use Trokar Hooks for all bottom contact plastics, the 2 with keepers are TK130 Punching and heavy cover TK 180 light wire w/keeper Mike 2 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted June 27, 2024 Super User Posted June 27, 2024 I started playing around with the VMC Redline Flipping Hooks and they are mighty nice 2 Quote
Bass Rutten Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Mustad alpha point flip. I'm liking this over owner and gamakatsu. Metal keeper, sealed eye, quality through and through. Their finesse straight shank hook is superb as well. 3 Quote

They're my current favorite. That's gonna take awhile. I cleaned Wally World out of them last time I was there. My favorite design ever was the R2S New Jack, but the ones I bought weren't tempered well and I broke three of them, right where the keeper was welded on. The rest went in the trash. 1 Quote

GetFishorDieTryin Posted June 29, 2024 Posted June 29, 2024 2/0 G finesse heavy cover hook. I like thats its not super heavy, but is very strong especially for its dia. The keeper may come lose after a lot of use, but its an easy fix Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted June 29, 2024 Super User Posted June 29, 2024 Gamakatsu for me. I carry them 2/0-5/0 depending on the size of the bait I’m throwing. Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted June 29, 2024 Super User Posted June 29, 2024 Do you guys snell knot your straight shank hooks or no? 1 Quote

Super strong, protected from damage by the bait, and the cam action sticks 'em in the roof of the mouth the vast majority of the time. 3 Quote

Super User NorthernBasser Posted June 29, 2024 Super User Posted June 29, 2024 I'll snell knot if I'm punching with straight shank. As far as normal t-rig flipping/pitching, I usually use EWG's, but have thought about dabbling more in straight shanks. Do you snell with fluoro as well, or just braid? 22 minutes ago, Catt said: Nope! Don't peg either unless I'm punching mats. Same here. Well, I will also peg if I'm fishing some really gnarly brush/laydowns. Quote
