Do you have rules in your boat?

What are the rules you set in place for other anglers when in your boat?  I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

   Wear a PFD when the 250hp is running.

   Eye wear and a billed cap.

   We leave the marina at 5 A.M..

   Catch and release only.

   No live bait.

   Don't toss cutoff line (or anything else) overboard.

   Don't drop fish on the deck.

   No smoking.

   No chew.

   No alcohol.

   Do not pee or poop over the side.

   

I almost always go out alone and I know why.

Just the bold....but I, too, mostly fish alone, so my patience hasn't been fully tested for the others....but no smoking and no peeing????  I wouldn't know how to fish without a cigar.  And I keep an empty Gatorade bottle, but I don't hesitate to just unzip and keep casting

• A closed tackle box is a happy tackle box
• If you want to fish a different spot, or fish faster (or slower), just speak up. Let's work together to catch more fish.
• When I say, "ooohh, get the net..." put your stuff down, and get the net (I'll do the same for you!!)
• Please be mindful of my rods, equipment, and boat...treat them as if your own
• Trash gets packed out, period.

These are pretty close to how I roll too.  I always ask whoever is with me if they want a PFD.  I do not force them to wear one.  We're all adults here and we can make our own decisions.

 

If someone wants to consume a cold beer in the boat, no issue here.  Keep your tackle organized and don't leave lures or hooks laying around.

 

Don't be late.  That one really irks me.

I agree with most of these except for the eye and sun protection. Like @gimruis said, we're all adults and can make our own decisions. If you wanna get a hook to the eye or sunburn, be my guest but I wont make someone put that stuff on.

Mine are easy.

Wear PFD when the motor is on while moving to a new spot.  This includes the trolling motor.

No standing up while moving to a new spot.

No alcohol.

No griping.

If the thunder gets closer then we go in, I don't care how good they are biting.

Billed cap is for additional eye protection from hooks.

There's only a handful of people who occasionally go with me.  None of them are drinkers, and all know how to act.  

 

If a stranger or mere acquaintance were to go fishing with me I'd specify no alcohol or drugs.

I have a friend who has a rule that whenever he pees off my boat, he whizzez on my Mercury (he's a Yamaha guy obviously)...

1. Do as I say not as I do. It’s my boat to ruin and trash if I choose.

   1.2 My dog comes first when he’s with.

 

2. Do not throw stuff overboard. If you reel in trash put it in a grocery bag to throw away later.

 

3.Sit in the seat I tell you to. I need you there to balance the boat

 

4.Do not be a jerk to others. if I feel like there is an issue I will address it.

 

5. We are out to have fun. Do so.

 

6. I have a routine with launching and loading. Unless I ask please do not help. That’s how things get forgotten.

Not that Bass Trek can handle more than one - but these would be the rules if it could.

 

1: PFD worn when the main motor is running

3: No work, politics or religious talk

4: I won't make you wear eye protection, but if you get a hook or something else in your eye that needs medical attention...they can pick you up at the nearest dock, I'm not 'holding your hand'.

Now that I have a kayak I don't have or need rules. 

 

But back when I had my boats and could take other people along, I didn't have set rules.  But I did expect everyone who came along to do whatever I told them.  Mostly just simple stuff like wear your PFD when moving, no drinking and driving (you can drink, but if you do you can't drive), sit where I tell you to sit (for balance when moving), don't litter, etc...  It was rarely ever an issue.  If I brought other people along, the point was to have fun, and I knew that. 

 

But I do remember one guy who came along once who just refused to do what I said and kept telling me "Nah man.  It's cool, it's cool.", and then did whatever he wanted.  He angered me so much I eventually threatened to beat him up, which I didn't feel good about, but I was sick and tired of him not respecting me and my stuff.  That broke him and he complied after that.  It kind of ruined the trip for everyone, but I blame him for that.  And that was the last time I ever hung out with him.  Not specifically because of that.  He moved to Brazil not too long after.  But I certainly didn't miss him.  He was a single child of rich parents who never really had a job, so he never learned how to obey.  Nice guy.  Just a bit feral.
