Super User Sam Posted June 24, 2024 Super User Posted June 24, 2024 Hey guys, I have not been fishing in two years due to various health issues. Seems my last issue, the decompression of levels 3,4, and 5 of my spine will take place on July 11th and after that recovery I should be good to go for the remainder of 2024 and into 2025. Then again....... Quote

Global Moderator Mike L Posted June 24, 2024 Global Moderator Posted June 24, 2024 I feel for you Brother as I have the same issues in the same places and have since 2012. My first fusion was L3 to L4 then L4 to L5, and 3 laminectomies. I still see a pain management doctor. At that time my surgeon told me I’ll probably need another in 5 yrs, that was 3 yrs ago and I’m starting to feel it now. If you had the shots you know they don’t cure the issue, neither does therapy, but both do help depending on the severity If there is any way to avoid surgery do it! Don’t feel pressured to do something if you have other options. I’m sure you had a 2nd opinion, if you did get a 3rd. I got to the point where the quality of life just deteriorated to the point I had no other option. I wish you the absolute best. If you want any information from first hand experience let me know. Wishing you the best. Mike 3 1 Quote
flatcreek Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 Sorry to hear you’re having this pain.Today I’m exactly at the one year mark of recovery from L2 to S1 fusion of 4 levels. At 8 months I was fishing solo on my bass boat but taking careful measures with movement. At one year I feel better than I have in a long time.I wish you great success with your surgery and recovery! 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 24, 2024 Super User Posted June 24, 2024 Decompression surgery basically removes vertebrae bone pieces to relieve pressure on the nerves exiting between the vertebra. It should go well with a short recovery. I have DISH Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostoiss a condition that causes extra bone growth and bone spurs so familiar with vertebrae surgeries including fusion. If we keep our core muscles in shape the pressure on the lumbar spine is greatly reduce. 20 minutes a day doing crunches and set ups keeps the surgeon away. Get well soon Sam, Tom 1 Quote
