Super User WRB Posted June 18, 2024 Super User Posted June 18, 2024 Agree line should evaluated by it’s diameter! Suggest looking the definition of thickness vs diameter my pet peeve. Line is round and measured by its diameter. A sheet of paper is flat and measured by it’s thickness. Off my soap box. Good article and a factor to consider when selecting lures for various presentation. Tom 7 Quote

My pet peeve on fishing sites is people calling 'action' 'power' or vice versa. Never the twain shall meet! 2 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted June 19, 2024 Super User Posted June 19, 2024 @WRB You made me a convert when you recommended Sunline Shooter Defier mono, with 15 lb. line have essentially the same diameter as 12 lb. Big Game. It’s great mono for one thing. But stronger line at the same diameter is a big plus. Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted June 19, 2024 Super User Posted June 19, 2024 @BrianMDTX take a look at videos online testing the strength of big game at various lb tests and then compare its diameter with fluorocarbons which tend to break close to their rating. What you will find is that big game as a very loose rule of thumb rates its line such that the true DRY breaking strength is close to 150% of the label. The diameter is, once again, 150% of the label. It is merely 150% stronger and 150% wider than the label. If you buy 12lb big game it is 18lb test line. I still really like big game and still use it a lot. Quote
