Just wanted to briefly share a positive experience I just had with a brand I only recently started using products from: Scum Frog.

As many of you know, I'm a big frog guy and thanks to @LrgmouthShad, I became privy to Scum Frog and was told they were second to none.

I ordered a few to try in the usual colors and some I'd never tried like a toad color!!!

They ended up being very effective and have caught me many fish in the shad colors - my confidence.

The toad color hasn't gotten as much play and I tied on the small toad pattern launch frog and the weight in the back fell out of it and got lost.

I contacted Scum Frog and they replaced the frog no questions asked.

I was already a customer for life but this is above and beyond and deserves public commendation.

They make a great frog and they stand by their product.

Been saying that on here for years.
Glad they’re finally getting some run

The basic Scum Frog is the only one I use. It's a great frog. Nice fish Pat Brown.

Just another reason to like Scum Frog.

I definitely like Scum Frogs - they’re a very soft body and have a better than average hookup ratio for me.  Good to hear they have great customer service too.

Only problem with scum frogs is that one pike can shred them to bits.  Not unusual to destroy a few in a day sometimes

Thank goodness I don't have to contend with those around here. I will say if you're primarily dealing with largemouth, they seem to be the most durable frogs and last many many fish.

Are you guys mainly throwing the Launch Frog? Or Pro Series? I have a few of them (along with some reeaallly old ones from back in the day), but I always forget about them. Seems like I'm usually reaching for a Pad Crasher, Bronze Eye or Gavacho.

I have been wanting to try the Launch Frog XS.

Pat likes that one

For years I threw mostly the Trophy Series as the ultimate heavy cover frog. Lately I’ve branched out into fishing frogs in sparser cover. I got a Scum Dog Walker to actually walk and I was pretty happy with that. Pat fishes so much, and fishes so much with frogs, I promise you he will be light years ahead of most of us within a few months . He’s going to be one of the best resources on the scum frog lineup.

That's not just a Scum Frog problem though.  Its every hollow body frog.  I've had that problem for 15 years regardless of the brand.  Once they get sliced by the pack of teeth, they take on water and don't float anymore.

I don't really fish frogs anymore though so that problem just kind of went away on its own...

I like the launch frog when they want more subtle action and I use the trophy for the very unique spitting head bobbing action that seems to get absolutely demolished.

Seems like the lunch works better when it's a little calmer or when they want a more subtle presentation, and it seems like the trophy works a little better when they want a more aggressive and attention grabbing presentation. Like perhaps a windy day or when they're eating schools of Bait fish?

I only use the 5/8 oz for the trophy but I used the small and the big for the launch.

Shad colors have been my most productive, but you should use whatever colors work best on your waters.

I got some of the popping trophies because they have a very small profile and I'm going to be seeing about those in just a little bit when they arrive. I assume they're going to work pretty good.

I have several Scum Frogs that should be arriving today.  Thanks to the thread and the bait monkey whispering in my ear that the frog bite is going to be on this weekend.  I'm looking forward to giving them a good work out on Toledo Bend this weekend.

It wasn’t hard to convince Pat to try them. I think the conversation went something like this:

Pat: “Y’all ever try scum frogs?”

Me: “They’re the best”

Pat: “Got it, 20 of them on the way”

I took a few liberties but that’s the gist of it 😂

Scum frogs are way more fragile.  Even burly bass can pop the hook through them and once there is a hole where water can get into their action is toast.  You can patch them and still catch fish, but they work way better fresh.

Luckily you can choose to throw them mostly where the pike aren't.

The other problem with them is that pan fish are notorious for turning them inside out and if you don't have a beefy rod and line when you hook a pad and need to extract it you lose the lure.

They are however great frogs and work really well.

Don’t sleep on the original one.
All the new models they have now are great and each has a purpose considering where and how you throw them.
But what put them on the map in most cases is still the best choice.

The Trophy Series with hook rests, flat silicone tails and more color choices, along with the new Launch Series with its double weight chamber and redesigned open rear water chamber were designed to compete with the more popular frogs in today’s market.

However, to me the tried and true original stands alone.

Back in the day, 1989-1990, I worked at Scum Frog making the frog bodies while I was in college in a little town called Columbus, MS. The founder of the company was a bass fisherman & owned a printing company. He started messing around with making the frogs in a little room in back of his printing shop. He eventually got to where it worked & he could make some good frogs. Once he expanded, he sold the print shop and moved into a building next door to make the frogs full time. Me and couple other guys made the bodies and we had a group of gals we nicknamed “The Frogettes” that glued on the eyes, inserted the hooks and packaged products in bulk. At the time we had 3 main frogs: the original Scum Frog, the BassRat, and the Scum Frog Popper.

At one point, the owner added a few new frogs to the lineup. One was a buzzbait frog with a propeller in front. I help name it….. The Thundertoad. He had another idea for 2 smaller frogs connected by a leader. I helped name it too…… Two Tiny Toads.

Eventually I left for grad school but kept in touch with owner/founder some over the years. He was a great guy to work for & would even occasionally take us fishing to some of his honey holes on the Tombigbee River. Think he sold off the company about 10 yrs ago and retired. The new company/owner is the one responsible for the newer frogs like The Launch Series.

Forgot to add. Original name of the company was Southern Lure Company.

I've got some Launch frogs and Launch XS I could be talked out of, lol.

They make a great product, but I've come to prefer the Bobby's Perfect Frog more.

As a frog connoisseur and somebody who uses them almost exclusively this time of year, I can tell you that they are two different frogs for two different jobs.

Different profile - different action - just like all the frogs I use.

😎😎😎👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I love them both but the Launch is far more likely to withstand 30 bass!

Both get bit.  Love those Bobby's Perfect Frogs.  Just got the duckling color to try!

I have never heard someone praise a scum frog before.  Are you all using the new fangled ones or the classic?  I used the old ones in the 90s and they were absolute junk.  Sank like rocks and all casted off the tail weighs.  The things looked bad too with a crude construction and flat skit at the back.  I ended up switching to the Grass Popping Frogs because they couldn't sink and then later to modern hollow belly frogs once those come out.  Are they modern products comparable or better than what's out there today?

Pulled out the Launch Frog today. For the life of me I could not get it to walk, and I can usually get most frog to walk. Very small twitches. Bigger twitches. All I got was a head bob. Are you guys able to walk this guy, or do you mainly relegate it to the thick stuff?
