Hey all,

So I got a new helix 9 Si g4n unit over Christmas. I'm in southern Ontario Canada so bass season just opened for me yesterday. We decided to go with the navionics+ map card because multiple salesman from different fishing stores all seemed to recommend or at least lean to it. Maybe cause it's better for where I live?

Anyways our problem is the card doesn't seem to load. I plug it into the slot and on the screen it says card encrypted or enabled successfully but when I'm over a body of water it doesn't really change at all. I'm doing this from my driveway, I didn't think it would matter if the boat was actually in the lake I've zoomed in on, maybe it does? Anyone wanna help me figure out how to get the map card to work?

Thanks

First place(s) to ask would be Garmin support or Humminbird support.

I don’t use Navionics but I think the Navionics+ cards now require activation and a subscription.

So yea I did this, and the subscription thing seems like it's more for updates and use of their app. Also seems like it's mostly for Garmin products you can load all your different Garmin products on the app. The subscription in my opinion shouldn't really affect my problem. But I have registered and everything for the subscription anyways just to make sure. However the helix even though it says on the box it has wifi it actually doesn't so you can't really connect the app to the helix unit.

I guess I will have to get in touch with either company and see what they say.

Your question is a little confusing.  Can you see a map on your unit?  Is the map showing your current location?

The unit should recognize the card.  Put it in before you power up.

You can select the map source from the HB menu.  menu, menu, chart, map source, auto.  You can select other sources if you want.

Is your GPS working?  If not, it won't read the map.

Take the chip out, power up the unit.  Try to view a map.  Base map should load.

Be patient.  If you have moved a long way, it will take time for the GPS to find satellites.

I have Navionics on my Helix10 G3Ns and it has no problem, but I do have to select it as the source card, rather than use the automatic selection.

Sorry for the confusion, but yes I can see a map and my location but there is no details on the map. Just a puddle of blue.

GPS does work. I've tried powering it up without the chip then inserting the chip and still no mapping details.

So can I ask what you select for the card? In my chart source option I get "auto" "XD something" and "humminbird basemap" as my options. Just to see I've tried each one and still no details on the water.

When you see a map with no detail, you are on the Humminbird basemap that is included with the unit.  Go to the map menu and go right or lefy to select the source map.  XD sould be your choice but give it a few seconds to load.

Thanks I'll give that a try. I know I've chose the XD source but maybe I just didn't give it enough time to load??

@IneedAnewScreenName-98161861 I don't think your HB unit is reading your Navionics card. I just loaded up my unit and here's what I see:

Yea that's what I think as well cause my unit definitely doesn't give me Navionics as an option.

I wonder if I should try updating the HB unit? I got it installed about a month ago and they did the setup and updates for me, so I was told.

You can check your software version on the unit and compare it to the latest software version on the Humminbird site.  If you’ve only had it a month or so you probably have a defective card.

If you have a computer with an SD card slot,  I would plug it in and see what it shows on the card.  If the card works you can use the Navionics app to update the card.  If the card doesn’t work then you have a defective card.  You said in your first post that the FF said card encrypted when you first installed it.  That suggests that the FF recognized the card.

check your head unit software first.  If they just installed it I would expet they updated the firmware also, but double check.  If not, then do that first.

same time, do as TB said, check the Navionics card and make sure if works.

Both of these things are good things to do.

My Helix10 has two slots, maybe try the other slot too if you have it.

So good news the unit and card are both functional we just got sold a Navionics card that only works on Garmin units. The store we bought it from locally had a decent sale on them and didn't train there staff that although Navionics works on HB they have specific cards, not just a one size fits all if you will. Luckily the store manager was aware it was their own fault and let us return it.
