I have a Zillion, Tatula SV TW, SLX MGL, on Aird X rods i got for $33. I get laughed at but it works and works great. So $100 reels on a $190 rod is fine.

And as a person who has both the Fuego and SLX A thats a great idea. They are both very durable, and feel very heavy duty. The Fuego is a bit better for that type of fishing tho, but both are excellent choices, go with whatever ones on sale for cheaper. Unless you only like those 2 brands the LFS goes on sale alot for around $60. Its just as good. I actually have my SLX (old one not A), LFS, and Fuego CT for fishing grass and lily pads. I switch them out every few months and dont have a favorite. All do great.

I ended up going with the SLX 70, I hope it will work well for me as an all around reel

30-40lb braid will make it a great all around reel, just more capable of being better at lighter and heavier baits. And everything inbetween.

I’m a big fan of braid to a leader so that won’t be an issue 👍

It’s a fine reel. You will be satisfied.

I agree, but as I pointed out earlier, check line diameters before buying.  You can almost empty the spool on a size 70 reel with the right rod/lure with line in the .012 diameter area.  Personally I like more than 2-4 yards left on a long cast.

Alphas for that price is a better deal than a Zillion for $210, so that's a nobrainer.

Where can I get a zillion for $210?

Import from Japan, though I think the exchange rate has slipped a bit, they're like $230 from digitaka right now. If you're looking for a lefty 7 speed Amazon Japan has 1 available for $196

A lefty 7 speed is exactly what I need, mind sending the link?

Thanks, I can’t believe I almost spent nearly double that on tackle warehouse!

do they also have good deals on shimano reels?

they have a few spinning and salt models but typically a lot more daiwa available than shimano.  one other thing to note these cheap prices come with the tradeoff of no US warranty support, I've never had a reel fail but it's something to be aware of with imports.

IMG_0334.png.ceeb9da7c200324936f37400c9cb1b88.png@August After hearing about Japan Lure Shop from this site I’ve purchased a few reels from them including 3 Shimano reels. They have 2 tiers of shipping and they include a bonus lure which helps offset the shipping costs. The prices are shown in yen but as an example you can purchase a slx mgl shown on site as 24 slx for 15,960 yen which converts to $101.34.

$196 for the left handed 7.1 ratio even. You can find them for even cheaper on japanese auctions, but its just easier to order from the japanese amazon
https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/DAIWA-Zillion-1000HL-Handle-Model/dp/B08NNZ2VT1/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3G99119P418WW&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.wVouUp7hLTzHBqYTC1XnaCX519XcnhhL-5D6AEdRa_xJbBW975E82jllYZnjOPjOSL3_M_pR158wFU-A5JJOU8M2u4mg75vJIpCtOaCD4Af_fq1DFJaCFKuWrBcLu-KQnM-4FnylykFxnvMOnr68PQaxx1SsI5TkVQOnrXLVySBO2qsZNjE_VKapgHsAKbbuzQkHCWvPjyXI3d1bfYKU-fp0zwBbYfdXt4CHFfJIVBXU3camyoG9VQbA5BLDXTxbG4WMEncRHR7zsFwaNZurMu_qRx81OXdtZUijeIRXiCY.qeefJh6i-qFshMgcO438Qlth4ovh0i84FWbg1cWqOC8&dib_tag=se&keywords=daiwa%2Bzillion&qid=1721484729&sprefix=%2Caps%2C119&sr=8-1&th=1

The zillion, for the price is so good that every single reel that is currently produces should be put on the side, and grab a zillion instead. If your budget is $150, wait a bit, get the additional $50, and buy the zillion, its much more worth it than the ghetto curados.

Curados and other centrifugal reels still have their place IMO.  I'm mostly Daiwa but an SVS centrifugal reel with braid and a lipless of other contact long casting bait just gets after it in the distance department.

Thats how much i love my MGL spool SLX, sadly i only have one.... Really shouldve bought alot more when they were closing out the last gen for $100 a few months ago....

x2. Love my SLX 70 last gen, only second to my Zillion but no way would I spend $230 again on a Zillion when I get darn near close performance from a $150 SLX. And that’s without the new MGL III spool.

It does, but that's only if you're using stock SV spools that come on most current Daiwa reels. Thing is, if you're using something like the zillion, the 34mm platform, there are literally over 50 compatible spools released in the last over 20 years. There is a ton of ultra fast spools that you could use to beat centrifugal brakes when it comes to distance, if that's your goal. Spools like the Type R and Type R+ tunes inductor spools, the Ringa SSS spool, the SLP1010 spool, RCS1016 spool, etc, etc. Most people don't bother swapping spool, and are stock with an SV spool forever, and its not with that that you'll be bombing across the lake, they're made for control, not distance.

I’m just double checking that this is the correct one https://www.amazon.com/Daiwa-Gillion-1000P-1000XH-Handle/dp/B08QZWCLQV

Do you know why it’s gillon instead of zillion?
It’s weird that the link I posted doesn’t show the same thing that I have. Here’s a screenshot of what it looks like on my phone. Only $200 instead of $275. I’m just making sure this is legit

@August I think it's just a quirk of translation.  Everything looks legit to me.

I like them both, but also prefer the SLX 70 MGL.
