Bandersnatch Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 I can drive my trolling motor through this maze, at least a hundred yards in, that means, it’s got at least a foot to 1.5 ft of water, what is this emergent vegetation? Do you think largemouth are in here? (They are in everything else in the lake) and how would you fish it? As heavy of a weight as needed to get in? nobody else around here goes into it last September I caught them in it in the attached picture where you can tell it’s more open and died off. 2 Quote
IcatchDinks Posted June 15, 2024 Posted June 15, 2024 I've punched a lot of guys, but never amongst lily pads. 1 2 Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted June 15, 2024 Super User Posted June 15, 2024 They will be in there but you need to find the spots inside of it. 65 braid, 1 oz 1 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted June 15, 2024 Super User Posted June 15, 2024 I’ll bet they are in there but that’s a lot of lake real estate for them to spread out in. I’d test it out by flinging a frog on braid to see if I could get any blowups. I’d also be looking at my maps to see if there are any deeper holes or some other structure. 4 Quote
Bandersnatch Posted June 15, 2024 Author Posted June 15, 2024 Too thick to get a frog to touch much water. Map idea is a great idea Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 15, 2024 Super User Posted June 15, 2024 First picture you're sitting? Second picture you're standing? In the second picture I see lots of openings. There is brush off to the right & off center to the left farther back more brush. I could swim a worm through that or flip-n-pitch a Rage Craw. Do I think they are in there? Give me a couple hours 3 Quote

txchaser Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 IMHO unless there a cut/creek channel/something, they probably won't be in the vast expanse. Seems too shallow for that. Cast length from where all that meets deeper water? Yeah go for it. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 16, 2024 Super User Posted June 16, 2024 Getting bites in that stuff generally isn't the issue. It's getting the fish out of it that can be challenging. Good luck. Quote
Bandersnatch Posted June 17, 2024 Author Posted June 17, 2024 First picture current, second picture September of last year I found several in there punching it with this homemade long drop Tokyo rig with a 1.5 oz miller tungeston punching weight and a ichikawa ts3 flipping hooking. I still had to lov the bait into the air to get it to punch down through those heavy pads. All you could hear was a crash; set the hook and drag. There was probably 18 inches of water in there. The pads, if that is what they are, probably stick out of the water three feet, almost a foot above my boat edge when up against it. As stated above, 18 inches of water, 3 feet above the water of vertical vegetation 5 Quote
