Andyb123 Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 I’ve been using the zoom super fluke with a 4 offset hook and right now I’m not using any weight so how long of a pause would be recommended for the fluke to reach its maximum depth when fishing in a 8 feet pond. Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted June 14, 2024 Super User Posted June 14, 2024 What size and type of line? Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted June 14, 2024 Super User Posted June 14, 2024 On something like 14-16 lb mono about 10 seconds if its free to fall and not penduluming back to you. That said, adding a 1/16 oz weighted hook is a big improvement for me. It still falls pretty slow but you can work it more actively without it staying on top of the water. 1 Quote
Andyb123 Posted June 14, 2024 Author Posted June 14, 2024 As of right now , 15 pound Fluorocarbon and I believe it’s the standard super fluke size I believe 4 inch Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted June 14, 2024 Super User Posted June 14, 2024 4 inch is the junior, 5.25 is the Super and 7 inch is the magnum. Personally, I use a Yamamoto DShad. 5 inches and made from the same formula as a Senko. Has a faster fall rate than others. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted June 14, 2024 Super User Posted June 14, 2024 I pull some extra line off of the reel to let the bait sink straight down. Then I let it sink until the fluke gets down to the bottom. When the line stops moving then you should be down there. Quote

I like owner light weighed screw lock hooks available in 4/0, 5/0 & 6/0 size with 3/32 weight. 1 Quote

Global Moderator Mike L Posted June 14, 2024 Global Moderator Posted June 14, 2024 I don’t use them much but when I do I put a 3/32 nail weight in its back I like a horizontal fall much better. Mike 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted June 15, 2024 Super User Posted June 15, 2024 A favorite bait but I only fish them shallow on a Gamakatsu screw lock. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted June 15, 2024 Global Moderator Posted June 15, 2024 It’ll get down quick on floro, i like mono better for slow tantalizing presentation and nose up on the twitch. i get a lot of fish deadsticking the fluke, just leave it alone and the bass find it Quote

These are what I use if fishing a fluke deeper than 4' or in current. Zoom flukes are more buoyant than other baits so the 3/32oz works perfect. Allen 1 Quote
padon Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 the d shad is heavier and will sink faster. caffeine shad is heavier than a fluke but not as heavy as a shad.you can use a weighted hook like the other guys have mentioned. i personaly dont like to but thats just my opinion.. youcan also put a small swivel about a foot up the line which will help sink it and also help with line twist. Hawgfinder Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 I like the caffeine shad too, but doesn’t seem very durable. So I use the d shad more often. Still miss Havoc series the Jerk I should’ve bought more when they were on clearance Quote
Super User MickD Posted June 17, 2024 Super User Posted June 17, 2024 For any lure to find the time it takes to sink to the bottom, start counting the seconds when it hits the water. Stop when the line tells you it hit bottom. Quote
Functional Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 I use VMC's drop dead weighted hook in 3/32oz in 4/0 size and 1/16oz in 3/0. Keeps it oriented right and keeps it from breaching the surface when I'm twitching it. Light enough to make it act weightless on the twitch. Cant answer your question though, I never fish it off the bottom. Only use it to target different depths in the water column. Quote
