Super User Dan: Posted January 12, 2007 Super User Posted January 12, 2007 So I recently got some braid (the first time I've ever used it) and I really like it. I got Stren Super Braid in 17lb test (I beleive). I really like how far I can cast with it, but I'm not sure I like it too much otherwise. I'm just not sure a fish is going to bite something on the end of a bright yellow string....Am I wrong to think this? I just don't see how fish wouldn't be scared of the bright color in most conditions. Should I just forget about this worry or are there any other types of line that I can cast far and are clear? JigNBig Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 if you are fishing clear water that may become a factor unless your are flipping cover and moving very quickly. otherwise i would try it out and it should be just like mono. another good choice is spiderwire and for spinning reels try fireline crystal in 6-10lb test Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 12, 2007 Super User Posted January 12, 2007 get a permanent magic marker and color it black on the last 6 feet. Quote
HPBB Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 use a leader with it. that is how I fish all my braid. learn the uni know to tie both lines together. Use some mono or flourocarbon as the leader. works great Quote
heathen Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 get a permanent magic marker and color it black on the last 6 feet. Thats what I do too. Quote
Bream Master Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Why black? Something magical with that color on braid? Quote
Super User T-rig Posted January 12, 2007 Super User Posted January 12, 2007 i use yellow braid alot with no leader but in stained water. if you fish clear water i recomend a fluorocarbon leader unless your flipping. Quote

JT Bagwell Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 I use Hi-Vis Yellow PowerPro line most of the time when I am fishing jigs, Senkos or other baits where line watching might be beneficial. I do not use leaders unless I am fishing in clear water (which almost doesn't exist in my area). For the most part you don't even need to worry about fish seeing your line because it is yellow or because it is braid. I do not have any input in reference to the brand that you mentioned since I have never used it, but I can tell you that I have use PowerPro for years and I have never had any trouble with it. Super User Grey Wolf Posted January 12, 2007 Super User Posted January 12, 2007 Color is subjective to me. Will colored braid cause a fish not strike a lure (maybe). I've caught a lot of bass on braid even in gin clear water. Quote
Hawgin Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 I wouldn't think that hi-vis yellow would scare off fish. How many fish have been caught on chartruese colored baits? Quote

That's a good point, but still I would think maybe the fish would think a long protruding string would look funny Quote
Super User RoLo Posted January 12, 2007 Super User Posted January 12, 2007 I use Hi-Vis Yellow PowerPro line most of the timeI do not use leaders unless I am fishing in clear water (which almost doesn't exist in my area). For the most part you don't even need to worry about fish seeing your line because it is yellow or because it is braid I feel exactly the same as JT (I use moss green PowerPro and tie direct without any leader) Of course, it's the angler's prerogative to worry about line visibility, but it's most likely an exercise in futility. Line diameter? Now that's a different story, and it doesn't apply to line visibility. Roger Quote
kbkindle Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 kb here i aslo use yellow power pro on plastics or any bait i want to line watch had a hard time with green it started looking like the grass and the trees and switched to yellow no leader i have cought more fish just because i can feel braid better and see it better. bought some red power pro to try i dont know why . i guess because its new. last year when in wisconsin the water gin clear where you culd sight fish and watch the fish suck in bait and not feel a thing with mono i could feel a little twitch with power pro or watch the line move good stuff kb Quote
