Bigbox99 Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 What is the ultimate junk fishing kayak rod? Something that can not just cast but skip a 5" senko and cast up to a 6" Magdraft. I am using a gen 1 Orochi EMTF which was the Braillist of that 1st gen line. At 7'5" F5 power rated for 3/8 to 1 ounce it struggles a little bit with a 6" Magdraft and a 5" senko will cast straight out or pitch just fine but won't load the road deeply enough for my liking to skip forcing me to adjust my timing. Also at 7'5" the rod is a little long for skipping docks. Quote

Bigbox99 Posted June 12, 2024 Author Posted June 12, 2024 Can these heavy or extra heavies really cast a 3/8 oz "weightless" soft plastic? 1 Quote

It's got some tip, so it throws light baits well, but will chuck 1 1/2 oz nicely too. I'm surprised by how versatile it is. If the new one uses the same blank as the previous gen silver ones, you should be good. It also has a downward-facing loop hook keeper, so no un-skinhooking skin hooked plastics, which is just peachy, IMO. Bandersnatch Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 Rod doesn’t exist in my opinion, a 5 inch senko is too light for a rod that casts a magdraft. Now, a 6 inch senko is a much different story 4 hours ago, MiceNReets said: Oh that Okuma TCS sure can. The Levante perfect pitch can too. Nice soft tip. I haven’t used the Orochi xx one yet No Quote

djhands Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 JDM steez stratofortress 68. Amazing rod from throwing DRT tiny klash to 1/4 ounce swim jigs. Quote
Logan S Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 Megabass XX Perfect Pitch...And it would do both of those things well. That rod is one of a kind. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted June 13, 2024 Super User Posted June 13, 2024 falcon head turner or Heavy cover jig. Both will do it. On the HCJ I'd want an SV or MGL type spool for the lighter end. For the head turner I'd want the expert model which is just a little punchier. The head turner is 6'10" and the HCJ is 7'4" so also some difference in your length preference. Quote
LootyDjibouti Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 I love that as a kayak angler I have three rods already mentioned ITT... Perfect Pitch, Head Turner, and Tat Elite Skippin Jig. All great rods. Quote

I've thrown weightless 5" dingers just fine on the 6'9" Tat Elite I linked to. No problemo, and that was while using a BB1 Pro with 50 lb braid. A 5" senko is a skosh heavier, so even better. When I had my Zillion on that rod it was obviously better with those weights. a 1/4oz jig and trailer loaded nicely and flew. Quote

Rockhopper Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 I kayak fish mostly with a 6'9" Okuma Scott Martin APC with a Citica. Great combo, the shorter rod is great for the yak, can throw just about any bait I need to from the yak, and doesn't break the bank. I save my good stuff for the boat. 1 Quote
