Bandersnatch Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 I’ve read the search ones. I’m the one with the frog thread trying to cast 50lb braid further with a 5/8-1oz frog on a 7’7 h expride that has a slingshot tip. I too love the zillion however I hear the tatula 100 is also very smooth. That tatula 100 frame intrigues me. I usually fish expensive reels but I’m not interested in doing so just to do so. 1. Should I expect a zillion with a joist spool to cast further than the tatula 100 that holds more line? If so, why? 2. Is the frames of these reels just a housing? If it’s smooth it’s smooth and should I just buy the spool I want to drop in? 3. Who’s the repository or daiwa oem and aftermarket spools? What’s good for what? I hear Ali x has a lot too 4. For casting, should a reel like the bb1 cast much further than a tatula 100 on equal setups? Quote
ABU is overpriced Posted June 9, 2024 Posted June 9, 2024 One thing you need to know is that the Tats might be smooth out of the box, they become buzzy and lose their smoothness pretty quickly, and while frogging this will happen the fastest. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted June 9, 2024 Super User Posted June 9, 2024 Any non-SV spooled Daiwa should cast a bit further. Couldn't say by how much. I could try to find out if I had any ambition. I have a bunch of Daiwa reels with and without SV spools. EDIT: None of my reels have been used enough to become buzzy so I can't comment on that possibility. Not all reels are created equally even from the same model line. I bought a 'blem' Tatula Elite that needs to be sent out for repair before I can use it. Can't even spool line on it. It's the third Daiwa (of almost 50 new & used) that I've had a problem with. First was a new SV105. Backlashed a lot. Sent out to a professional to go through and now it is a totally different reel. A used Airy Red Pixy came with parts missing and I couldn't tighten drag enough to spool on line. It's a lovely reel after being repaired. 1 Quote

My brother's haven't. Mine haven't either, and I'm always fighting fish back through dense veg and pads. 2 Quote

On par, except that the Zillion is better behaved when its brakes are set on the hairy edge for distance. SV boost is essentially a better version of standard MAG Z, IMO. Mag Z when set this way will be touchy, as in a fast, hard, spool locking backlash in the beginning of the cast, especially with braid and heavy baits cast hard for distance. This is precisely where quality centrifugal brakes have an advantage in the sense that you can be more reckless with your casting stroke. Quote
Bandersnatch Posted June 9, 2024 Author Posted June 9, 2024 I also wonder if there’s any evidence that the new “hyper drive” tats will develop the slop the old ones did. My hunch is that they won’t Quote
