And we in Minnesota are enjoying the start of summer - tonight it'll get down to 47 and tomorrow will top out at 70. Wednesday we'll have a heat wave...it'll get all the way up to 83.

Summer is the other winter in NC.  When it gets into the 90s every day, you get the fish to yourself more or less.  I catch a lot of big bass in the summer on big worms (my PB 11.5 on a 10" worm in July on a smoldering day )and frogs.  It's fun.  I like the heat actually.  I drink water and wear sun clothing and do fine chasing shade.  I night fish and sunrise fish in summer a lot too and that can be reaaaaally big time fun and hair raising excitement.

 

You won't hear me complain about summer bass fishing ever.

Summertime is actually my favorite season for catching. The fish have pretty much set up house for the summer and the off shore fish bunch up around here. Stable weather is also a plus.

The last few years, the skeeters have been few, but with all the rain recently, I'm preparing for the worst. For me, that means daylight 10:00-4:00, or after midnight fishing.

I will agree that Georgia is the hottest place I’ve experienced in the US but I’ve never been to Louisiana 

 

I played golf in Georgia and thought we were going to spontaneously combust . We also went to a football game tailgating in an asphalt parking lot , brutal 

 

Somehow Florida has always felt a few degrees cooler than Georgia to me in the summer

I bought a pair of ski/snowboard pants last fall for fishing in cold weather. They've proven to be a great purchase. They fit pretty loosely and have elastic in the waist, so I can wear them over other pants when needed on trips with wide temp swings. They're also pretty water resistant so they keep me dry in light to moderate rain. Much lighter in weight than my insulated Carharts that used to fill this role also.

Its been such a glorious spring here!  I haven't had to run my AC or sprinklers once.  Open the windows at night and the house cools down nicely.  Mother nature has been kind to us here.

 

I'd be fine if we didn't hit 90+ until July.  The average first 90 degree day here in MN is May 30 so we're definitely on borrowed time.  Definitely a welcome change from the past few years when it goes directly from winter to summer with nagging drought.

 

When we get those nasty sticky days with warm temps and a high dewpoint, I mostly just bunker down in my basement with the AC blasting.  Luckily, that sort of thing doesn't usually occur for more than a day or two at a time, and then there is a change.

My summer conditions are a mix of what you guys face. I bounce back and forth between the lake and the river. This coming weekend suppose to be in the 90’s. We’ve been in a nice stretch for a couple of weeks with low 80’s but brutal winds by the afternoon. Wind is not my friend so I pull the plug before I have to deal with it. We’ve been getting some rains and water conditions have been great but I’d like to see a wet summer without flash floods.

I wish we would get to summer fishing pretty quick.  Where I'm at in NC, the bass refuse to be pinned down right now.  They are all over the place.  For a few weeks after the spawn, you could nail down a pattern fairly quickly.   This past weekend, the only constant was that they are on bait.  The bass don't care if the bait is in 6 inches of water or 18 feet down over 60 FOW.  And they move....a lot.    You may as well put a blindfold on and just chuck something.   Kind of what I ended up doing yesterday.  Ended up locking a jerkbait in my hands and just run around tossing it....best if you see surface activity in the neighborhood.

@padon I’m not a huge fan of drifting long stretches. I feel like I’m always missing something. That is just my opinion.

That is a common strategy/advantage of the jet boat. The jets in this region never go long without getting on plane, ironically easier to avoid hitting a rock that way (the impacts are usually when drifting)

@TnRiver46 I hit way more going slow than on plane. I also suck up more off the bottom. I can’t steer and I can only run in 3” if I’m on plane. Jets only make their money in the last 800rpm too. Don’t get me wrong when I hit on plane it sucks. 
 

@padon it’s not best case to fish that way but low water makes the fish spread out so much.

It was a good morning on The Hill yesterday. The bass were healthy and the grass plentiful.Best 5 went 11 pounds. The water temperature below Russell Dam was 77 which was 3 degrees cooler than main lake.Don’t know if this pattern will hold until your tournament in two weeks but hope this helps. The only downside is it sounds like I’m fishing at an airport terminal on Saturdays and Sundays in shallow water 😂

@TnRiver46 yeah we need about 1.5’ to get on  and off plane. It can be pretty nerve wrecking at times for that. When I see I’m getting shallow I dump the throttle wide open and hope for the best.

Today was 90 here. Water temp was 83 in the morning, got to 85 by mid day.. first time I've packed a full ice cooler with water for a trip.

99-100 all weekend. Water temp at Lake Russell was 87-90.
