Sounds to me like you now have a nice crankbait rod! Going technique specific has tremendous benefits, but as you have discovered, there are some risks. I am sure you will be happy with the rod, you may just have to use it for another presentation.

I'm surprised that Sportsman's would make you keep it... worst case I could see you paying their return shipping.  You might check with the mgr, to be sure... every experience I have ever had (read that as MANY, MANY) with Sportsman's has been great.

Curious as to one thing though... you couldn't find a buzzbait rod in stock at Sportsman's???  Our's has a huge selection of rods.

good luck, if you get stuck with it, maybe it's a good backup rod for other techniques.

Have you used other medium baitcasting rods? Because it sounds like what you are saying, without actually saying it, is that Okuma rods don't meet your standard of what a medium power rod should be.

I don't think any med rod is heavy enough for buzzbaits. You would need a M/H to Heavy for that bait. Like R/W said you have a good crank bait rod now. :)

Don't worry about it kb, I've bought rods that felt good but didn't fish worh a d**n on the water.  I'm not real familiar with Okuma's freshwater line of equipment. They make pretty good SW stuff.  You'll find something to do with that rod or we'll see it up for sale here in the flea market.  :)
