ABU is overpriced Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Cought a 41 incher yesterday, and it sliced my lure pretty good. Is there a product that i should use to repair the rubber skin of a slide swimmer? I assume super glue isn't a good idea since it'll harden, and it needs to be flexible. 2 Quote
Super User gim Posted June 7, 2024 Super User Posted June 7, 2024 Probably not. I've experienced this countless times on soft body lures with northern pike. Once its sliced, its essentially ruined. Nice muskie BTW, at least you had a leader on to mitigate the bite off. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 7, 2024 Super User Posted June 7, 2024 Contact the guys at the Hook Up Tackle. I'm sure you're not the first. Nice fish though. Quote

I own some Flexible Plastic Adhesive from LePage, and was thinking on trying one of those, but if there's a better product, would prefer getting that. Quote

Big Swimbait Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 I have used clear flexible caulk with good results. 1 Quote

Super User PhishLI Posted June 7, 2024 Super User Posted June 7, 2024 If it's Plastisol, then Mend-it should restore it perfectly. 1 Quote

Functional Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 I'd say flex it open and squeeze some Shoe Goo in there. Flexible, water proof. At one point (potentially currently) Marines use it when attaching their jute to ghillie suites. If they cant destroy it then I'm pretty sure it should hold up for you. Quote
ABU is overpriced Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 Tried the LePage Flexible Plastic Adhesive glue, and it worked. Seems to hold well, too. Quote
RRocket Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Use Mend It to glue it together. Really get that brush in there. After you hold it for several seconds, it should be set. Next use you precision soldering iron and smooth over the wound...moving the adjacent plastic into the wound and covering it up. That should "seal" things up. Not sure this works with every plastic, but it sure does work well! Quote

And have you tried mend it on slide swimmers or are you assuming it would work because it works on silicon baits? Quote

I have no idea whether it will work on your particular bait,...which is why I said I'm not sure if it works in every plastic. I understand the concern with the paint. But if the alternative is tossing it away, I don't see the harm in trying. Quote
