Most of my snags require braking an 8lb leader.

"Braid" gets used like it means something specific - it doesn't.  

If you're interested in higher grade coatings with improved abrasion resistance, check Varivas and YGK.

Why is 50lb braid ridiculous? On a spinning rod yes but on a baitcasting rod NO !!!!! You have a lot to learn if that's what you meant.
