basspro48 Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Well I recently bought a $7pack of GYCB swimming senkos and took them out to one of the best ponds in the area. I figured, the place is loaded with big fish and I am one of the only people who has permission to fish it, so at least one fish has gotta eat it...but after an hour of throwing the $7swimming senko I had nothing. I tried it every way I could think of, t-rigged with a weight on a steady retrieve, weightless, pitching and flipping it, on a jighead, wacky rigged...the fish just would not touch it. But what really got me was that as soon as I went back to pitching t-rigged flappin hogs and speed craws I caught 14 fish, including a 6lber and a 4.5lber. Now I don't know if it was the bait or me, but I won't be buying any more of these stupid things > Quote
Triton9 Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 great idea not to buy them any more buddy Quote
johnkook73 Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Yea I havent had any luck with them either. Quote
Guest avid Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 There are always threads about gycb baits. so I won't comment on the lure itself, I simply want to say that you have some baits left so by all means use them up. If you still think they are guaranteed skunkers than you'd be crazy o buy more Quote

George Welcome Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 This tiny fish fell for a weightless SwimSenko yesterday for Mr. Bruce Campbell. They are not made for jigheads, wacky rigs, or flipping. Quote
RWHusker. Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 I've had decent success swimming them around grass and structure. Not like the pic above yet. GO BIG RED Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 I read the link, and George Welcome's awesome post... Is George just texas rigging it? George, are you using a bullet weight, spiltshot, or nail weight? Quote
George Welcome Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Depending on the depth you want to run and speed you want the bait to move. The fish depicted above was caught weightless in lilly pads. This one was caught just below the surface coming through some bullrush using a 1/4 ounce weight. This one was caught about 3.5 feet down using 3/16 ounce weight. Rigged T-rig, skin hooked - speed medium to slow. Quote
scbassin Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 I have had some good luck with them fishing around grass beds & stump fields. I have been using a 1/32 oz. weight with it & a reel with a 5.1:1 gear ratio. If I pull the bait with the rod I use a higher gear ratio reel. Nice fish George. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted August 30, 2007 Super User Posted August 30, 2007 I have had good luck with the Swimming Senkos. I fish them with a 3/16oz screw in weight and a 4/0 EWG. I use a Shimano Calcutta 251 with a Loomis BCR803 and fish them with a slow to average retrieve. Quote
Brad_Coovert Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Seems like the fish wanted a different profile bait that day. Flappin Hogs and Speed Craws = Chunky. Swimming Senko = Longer, Slender. If you throw a spinnerbait and get nothing and then you toss a crankbait and catch 12 nice fish, do you give up on the spinnerbaits for good as well? Remember, you can't force feed a bass a presentation it doesn't want and expect good results. Don't give up on one outing, like all baits, these baits will catch fish at the right time. Brad Quote
