I have a problem, I have a Shimano Citica on a 7' crankbait rod, my problem is, that it is nearly impossible to actually cast soft plastics. I have loosen the brrake as loose as it can, just right, tight, etc. and it cant cast them out. Do I neeed a dif. reel, or a diff rod?

Mybe your bait is too light for the reel.  That would be my only guess.

If your bait is too light (which it sounds like it is) you might want to try putting some lighter line on it. If that don't work switch reels or pick up a spinning combo.

The problem is most likely your rod or line. Light line for casting light baits also many rods are rated for a certian botom end for lure weight. These rods wont perform properly with lighter baits. With most crankbait rods being M or MH in weight should be able to handle anything down to an 1/4 to 3/8 of an oz. Ant ligter baits you might want to consider a lighter rod also most casting reels don't work well with anything under 8-10lb test so you might want to try a spinning outfit.

Post your rod ratings, the lure sizes or types, line size and type and someone can likely zero right in with a solution.

A different rod. Take a look at the lure ratings on your rod. If your lure weight falls below the lowest rating number you need to change rods. Remember that the reel only holds, pays out, and retrieves the line, the rod actually cast the bait, imparts the action, and sets the hook..

Tight Lines!!!
