Scott G Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 I appreciate the pros out there that can give us an answer. I have a MotorGuide xi-5. Brand new lower end installed by authorized dealer. It hasn’t been in the water yet. I spun the prop by hand and it clicks every 10 degrees or so. I have a memory of a smooth spin manually. Am I losing my mind or do you think I may have an issue. Thank you in advance for your expertise. Quote
airshot Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 Talk to the folks that made the repair, they should know..... 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted June 3, 2024 Super User Posted June 3, 2024 The only time mine makes a clicking sound is when it's folded on the bow and I hit the switch 😳. I would see what it does in the water but I have 3 trolling motors in the garage that makes no sound when spinning the prop. 1 Quote
GRiver Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 I have the X3 and it doesn’t make any noise when turning the prop. Quote
Super User GaryH Posted June 3, 2024 Super User Posted June 3, 2024 I would definitely contact the repair shop. If they say it’s fine, please post their response as I would like to see why. Quote
Super User Bankc Posted June 3, 2024 Super User Posted June 3, 2024 It shouldn't be making any noise. But it's possible, if they switched out the brushes, that it just needs time for the new brushes to set, especially if they just used generic brushes. Or it could be something else rubbing and causing damage. It's hard to say without know what's making the sound. Quote
Super User casts_by_fly Posted June 3, 2024 Super User Posted June 3, 2024 i changed the brushes on my autopilot and it clicked. Not sure if it was every 10 degrees, but it was regular and with the RPMs of the prop. I think its gone now so they just needed a little time to bed in and wear off the edges. I'd still contact the shop that did it and ask. Quote
