Super User FishTank Posted May 29, 2024 Super User Posted May 29, 2024 I have a new Megabass P5 Whippet coming my way. I was able to pick it up new from Japan for pretty much a steal and I am looking for a new reel to put on it. I have the new Vanquish and I also picked up the 24 Certate as well. Both have been fantastic. The new Twin Power has caught my eye but I don't know much about it. Does anyone have one? Any thoughts on this reel? I will be using it for small hair jigs and small paddle tail swimbaits with #0.8 PE braid to leader. 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 29, 2024 Super User Posted May 29, 2024 I have a '20 Twin Power, and it's my favorite Shimano, and my only mid-frame. I just added a ('19) Vanquish spool (while I still could) to get shallower PE #0.6 capacity on my C3000MHG reel. Standard spool on this size is 1215 - PE#1.2, 150 m. Killer line management, even swapping 3 spools around. 3 Quote

If I did the Airity, I might as well get another Vanquish (seems to be the better reel of the two) and the Exist is awesome but even at the JDM price, it's expensive and more reel than I need for what I want to throw. The Twin Power seems to sit between all the ones I considered. Plus, I was able to get it for about half of what the Exist cost. We will see how it goes. 3 Quote

I always took the twin power to be more of a heavier duty, even saltwater reel. Maybe it's in the naming. 1 Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 29, 2024 Super User Posted May 29, 2024 The weight here tells you the frame size under 200g is small frame, 210 to 230 is mid-frame (C3000MHG is beefed-up mid-frame), 260+ is large frame. ('20 Twin Power chart) I bought C3000MHG for bad-boy inshore small package with near-enough large-frame drag. (Actually, I bought it because my friend Lou accidentally ordered 2 from Asian Portal). I have a distance shore niche that will benefit casting PE#0.6, and the target is snook. My bud Nick uses C2000S Twin Power in spinning finesse and loves it. My reel is both so smooth and so overbuilt, it seems like cheating. What you gain in Twin Power strength is not lost in finesse performance, because Japan-bench parts matching makes these reels astounding. Side-by-side, Vanquish is the best finesse reel ever because it was designed to be the best finesse reel ever. But unless you have the two side by side, you won't notice the drive inertia difference. 2 Quote
Fishin_Forrest Posted June 3, 2024 Posted June 3, 2024 I just got the C2500SXG 2024 twin power. First impressions are that it is really nice. I'm putting it on a 6'10" ML rod and plan on running it for ned/drop shot. I also have the 23 Vanquish in a C3000 on my M spinning set up and it's so choice. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 5, 2024 Author Super User Posted June 5, 2024 I received my new Twin Power yesterday and got a chance to test it out. It's a smooth little powerhouse. It pairs perfectly with the P5 Whippet. The retrieve is similar to the Vanquish but that's about it. It's heavier but not much. The drag is tight from the moment a fish hits, unlike the Vanquish which is slow to start. Paired with the Whippet, which has a soft tip and a pretty powerful midsection, it just works. For the JDM price, this reel is a no brainer. This is my first P5 spinning rod though and the reel handle takes some getting use to but once figure out the best hand position, it's fantastic. With the exposed blank touching your hand, it might be more sensitive than a NRX+. If anything, the sensitivity when a fish hits is unique and fun. I will need to fish both of them side by side to get a better sense of their capabilities. 2 Quote
Loomis13 Posted July 4, 2024 Posted July 4, 2024 @FishTank How is the first month or so of the twin power? I am thinking about getting one. Have also considered the Stella, but would rather not spend that much. Quote

Have also considered the Stella, but would rather not spend that much. It has been just a blast to fish. I have it paired with a Megabass P5 Whippet. This combo has brought in a ton of fish and despite the rod being 6'6'', it will cast a mile with some light braid. I can't speak completely for the Stella but I have played with one and I think the Twin Power is slightly smoother. For the money, you can't beat it, except maybe with the Vanquish but I would have a hard time choosing between those two. Quote

I have a vanquish and am looking for something a little heavier. If the twin power is anything like the vanquish I will love it! Thanks for the feedback. 1 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted July 4, 2024 Super User Posted July 4, 2024 How does the twin power compare to your 24 Certate? Quote

Between the two I kind of like the Twin Power better. It feels better balanced but not by much. I like the drag better on the Certate. Both reels are smooth but in different ways. It might be a personal preference on this topic. The line lay on Twin Power is also slightly better. You really can't go wrong with either one. Quote
