Pogues2300 Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 Just curious if .25 oz over recommended weight is a big deal. Specifically the rod I used to fish 1.25 oz 6” magdraft needs a repair so was thinking about throwing them on my nrx+ 844c mbr rated up to 1 oz. Obviously I don’t want to damage the rod. Thanks. Super User Solution MickD Posted May 27, 2024 Super User Solution Posted May 27, 2024 Should be OK, but if you feel you are overloading the rod just do lob casts to reduce stress on the rod. 2 1 Quote

Makes sense. I might just tie one on later and see if it feels overpowered. Thanks Oh and after googling this just now a thread from bass resource from 2010 popped up…… ah so that’s why you search before posting lol Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 You'll be okay. I've gone over the weight range often with a variety of rods over the years and I've never had an issue. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 In this case I think you’re fine. The blanket answer for readers is , it depends. 1/4 over on. 1oz rating isn’t bad where as 1/4 over on an intro light probably wouldn’t cast well. 2 Quote

I just need to stop being lazy and drive the 45 minutes to drop my orochi perfect pitch off to get the lock nut fixed lol. That’s what I threw them on before. Quote
softwateronly Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 I have a CNQ904mbr and regularly throw over 1.25oz. I think the true rating could be more like 1.5oz. So I'd follow @MickD's advice and feel it out. You'll know if it's too much and it won't damage anything if you take it easy while learning the limits. scott Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted May 27, 2024 Super User Posted May 27, 2024 As Mike said, depends on the rod. I have a 7'6" MHF rated 3/8-1 1/4 oz. I felt a 1.5 oz. bait was pushing it. I lobbed it. Yet it was lousy with a 3/8 oz. spinnerbait. Personally wouldn't use less than a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait. If you read the TT review of the Okuma Helios 7' MF (rated 1/4-5/8 oz.), you will see a lure totaling about 1 oz. was okay. Rod lure ratings are sometimes sheet and giggles. You need to try for yourself to see what weights are comfortable (for you) to use. Quote
Pogues2300 Posted June 4, 2024 Author Posted June 4, 2024 Thought I would just follow up. Went out this past weekend and threw the magdraft around on my 844c mbr. It easily handles the weight. No issues being over powered at all. Thanks all for the input. Quote
