C5Longhorn Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 I would like to try a higher end (for me) 2 piece spinning rod and am looking at a St Croix Avid. Specifically, I'm looking at the 7.0' MF 2 piece spinning rod. I would pair it with a Shimano Stradic 2500. I would use this rod mostly for light Texas rigs, flukes, and soft plastics. Is this a good rod for my listed uses. Thanks, Rick Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted May 20, 2024 Super User Posted May 20, 2024 Sounds like it to me - I use a 7'1" Mojo Bass M/F for those techniques and it's very good...I can only imagine the Avid being better. Quote
Randy Price Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 I do not have any experience with SC's 2-piece rods but have A LOT of experience with their AVID series (almost 30 years worth). IMO, the AVID series is SC's best bang for the buck in their rod line. You should be very pleased with your choice. It's ( the 7'MF) really the swiss army knife of rods. Let us know how you like it! C5Longhorn Posted May 20, 2024 Author Posted May 20, 2024 Thank you both for the input. Very much appreciated. Look forward to trying out a St. Croix rod as I've heard good things about them. Rick Quote
msgf91 Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Avid spinning rods are nice. I have a 6'8 M walleye that I originally used for light drop shot. But now that I have some other rods that can cover that I'm changing the line and using it for soft plastics and heavier cover shot drop shot. I liked it so much I have an Avid panfish on the way from American Legacy. Quote
PaulVE64 Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 I have the 7ft 2pc Avid med fast. I love it. Soft plastics will be good Quote
C5Longhorn Posted May 21, 2024 Author Posted May 21, 2024 This is great to read, I'm excited to try the rod out. Rick 1 Quote
jbmaine Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 I have the exact same rod and reel ( only my rod is a one piece). Nicely balanced and a joy to use. My Avid is almost always used for throwing paddle tail plastic's. Quote
