huskertko Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I just bought a Citica 100 today to put on my Loomis MBR783, and when I opened the box, there was oil, a wrench, and then there was a bag of replacement brakes. My question is some were red and some were green, is there any difference in them, other than the color? Quote
ThomasL Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I believe they are spool speed control weights, color tells which is which but i don't know which? : Quote
TournyFish001 Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 good question- I have never put the green ones in yet even though they come with the reel. Someone tell us when you would use the green brakes??? Quote
Super User flechero Posted January 3, 2007 Super User Posted January 3, 2007 The green weights are heavier. Approximately twice as heavy as the red. Don't think I ever heard of anyone needing the green ones but I guess they do or else they wouldn't send them! ...lol Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 My mind is going at this old age but I remember something about one is harder then the other and slows the spool faster. I will see if I can find out somehow. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted January 3, 2007 Super User Posted January 3, 2007 I just bought a Citica 100 today to put on my Loomis MBR783 That didn't take long. I am adding another combo myself. :-/ : ;D Quote

I still have some BPS credit so I am waiting until I start work there to get a crankbait set up. Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 3, 2007 Super User Posted January 3, 2007 Pink ones weight 30% more than clear ones Green ones weight 60% more than clear ones. You can change the speed at which the spool rotates by changing the weights. For example, when swimbaiting to keep the beast under control with those heavy suckers change for green weights, it has less tendency to overrun. Quote

So the green ones will have a greater braking ability than the pink ones? I guess I will stick with the pink ones since my other curados have those and I am used to that. Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 3, 2007 Super User Posted January 3, 2007 Yes, the green ones reduce the speed of the spool, but, don 't compare the pink ones in your other Curados, the pink ones found in your older Curados are equivalent in weight to the clear ones found in the newer ones, until recently domestic versions only came with one type of weight; only Shimano JDM had more weights. Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 So it would stand to reason that the red weights should be for general use. Clear to lighten up even more i.e. finesse fishing, light jigs, etc and green for big stuff like s-baits, bucktails and 1 oz spinnerbait type stuff? Husker- Congrats on your new edition, enjoy! Quote

huskertko Posted January 4, 2007 Author Posted January 4, 2007 LBH, Thanks I can't believe how balanced and light the overall rig feels. It makes my other rigs feel really heavy and bulky. Regarding the clear brakes, do you have to special order them or what? The brakes that came installed are pink as well, so I have an extra set of pink and a set of green. I really don't think I need the clear ones but just incase I want some down the line. Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 4, 2007 Super User Posted January 4, 2007 Those pink ones installed in the reel are the same weight as clear ones, JDM reels come with clear ones. Quote

HPBB Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 instructions? who reads instructions? That is one proplem when buying a combo set up in a store. Alot of the time the instructions are not on the reel. Not the same set on instructuction you when you buy the reel seperate in abox.
