Was using some 8# as leader on my panfish rig when the lure went flying. Inspected the broken end of the BasiX and noticed this

Stuff was frayed almost like it was braid. No rocks where I was fishing, just weeds and the occasional small branch floating in the water. Needless to say, I'm probably gonna stay away from BasiX - respooling a reel that had 15# on it with 12# YZH.

Yes, I did inspect the guides on the rod and the roller on the reel, despite it being a new reel...no issues found.

Ive seen it happen when seating a knot using a rag, and that was good leader material lol.

Knot was set bare handed - not hauled down, just tight. This fraying happened about the middle of a 12' leader after a few dozen casts.

How often do u retie?

Like I mentioned - that was after only a few dozen casts with a fresh leader in mostly clear water...some weeds and floating sticks, but that was it....call it 40 minutes or so of fishing time before it snapped. I've lasted all day with InvizX on the same rig in the same conditions. I'll pay the extra and all my BasiX is going into the 'use only in emergencies' bin.

Don't forget that zebra mussels can attach themselves to weeds.  That type of fraying looks a lot like a zebra cut to me.  Maybe your water now has them?

ps - I haven't used that leader before so I could be totally wrong.
