I noticed a potential hole in my bait cast rods line up whereby my only MF action rod is a 6'7" jerk bait rod , then my next rod up is a 7'3" MHF Dobyns Sierra bait cast rod . *Anybody use a 7' ~ 7'3" MF bait cast rod to cover a few different (utility) applications ? If , what brand / series are you using ?

7'3" is the way to go for MH rods (unless using a jerkbait or crankbait).

I have tons of them, from Dobyns (733c but this rods rated odd, its more like a inbetween of M and MH) and several Aird X's.

But ive also got a 7' Lews TP1X and a 7'2"/7'4" Lews KVD, along with 2 more 7' Aird X's.

I like the 7' rods for casting jigs or spinnerbaits, everything else id rather have a 7'3".

For distance you just cant do better. (i mean you can if you get a longer rod, but youll be hitting the rod into ceilings and smacking it into trees).

A 7'3" MH fast rod is one of the most versatile casting rods you can get, paired with the right reel and line you can cast even way below its ratings too. It can do so much, Texas rigs, jigs, chatterbaits, spinner/buzz baits, jerkbaits (just dont hit the ground with the rod), crankbaits (just loosen drag), lipless cranks, flukes, toads, topwaters (ploppers, poppers, and walking baits), paddle tail swimbaits.

Like MediumMouthBass I have more MH rods than any other power.  A few haven't been fished yet.  I purchased rods even when life was getting in the way of my fishing.

Of those I've used a few times, some favorites are:

Smallmouth 6'10" MH-MF

Tatula 7'2" MHR

OG Falcon Expert 7' MHF

older Powell Endurance 7'2" MH-EF

Witch Doctor Shaman 7' MHF

Rainshadow RX7 7' MHF

Yes. A 13 Omen Black 2 7'1" MF/Quantum Tour S3/12lb Sufix Advance copoly. It's my 1/4-3/8oz square bills/70mm cranks/ jerkbaits and WP 60-75 setup, but I also throw finesse jigs and any weedless or T-rigged plastics with it within its wheelhouse. Going on 5 years now and plenty of solid fish fought through the junk. That line is discontinued now, but the Meta line with an upgraded 36T blank replaced it. Powers and action seem to track well throughout the 13 line, so the 7' MF Meta should be close, plus it has a better downward-facing loop hookeeper which is a bonus for not having to un-skin hook plastics.

I like my fury 703. It’s listed as a medium heavy but I find it to be more of a medium. For the way I fish, if I can only bring one baitcasting rod with me this is almost always the one I choose

Why do you think it’s a void in your rod selection? I use a MC NAC-T681M/Si as a utility casting rod. Could use a longer MF for 1/4oz - 5/8 oz - 5/8 oz crank baits for a little longer casting, the 6’8” is all I need.

Ark Invoker 7'4" H MF composite. All single hook moving baits, and baits with big trebles like ploppers and larger cranks.

I currently use a Dobyns DX743 for weightless senkos, finesse jigs and such. Good to have a medium fast for things that are just a tad too light for a MH rod.

I used to have a 7’2” MF Okuma Psycho Stick that was also a great rod

The closest I have myself is my falcon 7’2” swim jig rod which is certainly fast though it’s more MH than medium. That said, I fished my dad’s shimano curado 6’10” medium/fast and it’s a great rod. 1/4-3/8 spinnerbaits, shallow to mid crank baits, light swim jigs or finesse jigs, etc. anything you’d throw 12-14 lb line for it’s a pretty sweet rod. I don’t prefer foam handles but otherwise is a cool rod.

I've been using a Edge Delta 705 MBR. What a great all around rod. They list it as a light MH moderate fast but to me, power wise it's between the Loomis 843 and 844.

I cant think anything I couldn't use it for up to 5/8 oz.

On sale at $150 it's worth every penny.

As always , thanks Tom for input (along with others who replied) ... My Dobyns 733c MH may fill the bill nicely for a rod closer to MF or M Mod Fast with a bit more casting distance than my shorter MF jerk bait rod .

I have a 7'0" MF Fenwick Techna (rated for 1/4oz to 5/8oz) that gets a lot of utility duty like this -- smaller squarebills and topwaters, smaller spinnerbaits, light t-rigs, finesse jigs.

I also have a 6'6" MF St. Croix Premier that serves the same role for more close-quarters work, like when I'm floating a small river.
