rboat Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 As a follow up to Ol' crickety's thread. Name top 5 dislikes about the sport we all love. 1. Idiots at the boat ramp. (Don't know what they are doing and take forever as they hog the ramp like they are the only ones on earth.) I load and unload by myself and never take more than 5 minutes. 2. Idiots on the water. (Pleasure boats and jet skis who have the whole lake but prefer to be right near the guy who wants to be quiet and alone while fishing.) 3. Cost. inflation on the price of gear, fuel, and insurance is out of control. 4. Wind. some may like it, but not this guy. Fishing when it is windy becomes a hassle quickly. 5. Traffic. Drivers need to be aware of people pulling a trailer. We cannot accelerate or stop quickly. Most do not understand this. Still love the sport! 4 Quote
BucksBasser Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Pulling in large balls of line on a crankbait. I really wouldn't mind if there was a $10 lure attached. Why are people so lazy to just throw this in the lake? It's also a nuisance getting wound around the trolling motor prop. My other peeve is people who don't know how to tie knots I keep a set of those little knot tying cards in the boat and make sure any anglers I invite are told to use it. My rule is you get one free knot tie from the captain (me) and after that it's ten dollars a knot. Only exception is little kids. 2 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted May 12, 2024 Super User Posted May 12, 2024 I can only think of one thing: people who trash the lakes, and don't respect the areas they fish in. I have zero tolerance for these low lifers. 9 2 Quote

Super User BrianMDTX Posted May 12, 2024 Super User Posted May 12, 2024 Only one thing. Not having more available time to fish. I can get around idiots, litter, traffic, rising costs, etc. Time is something you can’t buy or ignore. 8 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted May 12, 2024 Global Moderator Posted May 12, 2024 *Trash *Being back boated in tournaments *Parents who don’t put a PDF on little kids. *Homeowners who think they own the water under and around thier dock *Indiscriminate weed control Mike 6 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Kayakers people leaving trash people who hang out at the boat ramp people who keep fish out of the water to long just for pictures. FFS Two of those are heavy hitters and may have me shunned. Not saying it to spark a debate or to get reactions just answering the question honestly. Quote
MediumMouthBass Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 1. Tackle addiction, its real and its serious. When the sales were good, i bought way to much. Most of it ill never use and have so many things i dont even need, or want to fish with. Along with countless thousands wasted. I now am going through the process of starting a LLC/business for myself to sell off most of it either locally or online. But the one upside is atleast ill be able to learn a few things about a business, taxes, shipping, and ill get to tie flies (which is another one of my favorite hobbies) and sell them. So for me the rising cost of lures is keeping me from buying more, bad planning on my part but it taught me alot about making better financial choices and proper planning. 2. Pickerel.... The guys even more north will say Pike. What else do i need to say? We all know how evil they are. Check my profiles signature down below for an example of them. 3. The lazy fishermen who leave tons of line, bottles, containers, and other trash everywhere, theres really no reason for it. Even had a few of them starting campfires along the bank right under lots of trees.... 4. Having a kayak with no anchor trolley, the wind can get bad, very bad. 5. Jetskis, my parents will come near my kayak at a slow speed to check on how the fishing is, and even slow it causes such a wake i get blown 15-40'. So the other people going really fast gets to the point you have to reel in and paddle to dodge getting blown into a dock. 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted May 12, 2024 Super User Posted May 12, 2024 1. People swimming at the boat dock 2. Slimy algae 3. Wind 4. Litter 5. Cottonwood trees 2 Quote
OmegaDPW Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 As a bank fisherman, these are my top three: 1. Fire ants/mosquitos/gnats (so all insects). They're basically year round here in S GA. 2. Snakes 3. Not really being able to retrieve a stuck lure unless luck is heavily involved. 2 Quote
Super User Scott F Posted May 12, 2024 Super User Posted May 12, 2024 1. The distance I have to travel to get to my preferred bodies of water. I never used to mind driving long distances to go fish, but as I got older, I have less and less patience to drive an entire day each way to get to my favorite places. I moved 3 years ago and I’m no longer close to some great smallie rivers. 2. Bad weather. After driving hundreds of miles, I hate having to sit and wait out passing storms or even worse, all day rains. 3. The expense. Gas, tolls, lodging, non-resident fishing license . 4. Not catching. Well….duh! 5. Tournaments. I don’t feel the need to turn fishing into a competition, and don’t care if others do….as long as they don’t do it on the water I’m trying to fish. I’ve had nothing but negative experiences with tournament anglers. I seldom have problems with crowded fishing spots because of where I prefer to fish. 1 Quote
throttleplate Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 Wife and i now solely fish for consumption, we dont eat bass, only walleye and panfish. We went crappie fishing last week and the by product was catching lots of bass which was fun untill it wasnt. Quote
Super User king fisher Posted May 12, 2024 Super User Posted May 12, 2024 The Bait Monkey. Even if I caught the world record bass on a lure I have dozens of, he would tell me I need to buy that lure in a different color if I want to catch a bass. No matter how many baits I own, or how many bass I catch, the Monkey is never satisfied. 6 1 1 Quote
SWVABass Posted May 12, 2024 Posted May 12, 2024 1. Bosses who don’t understand fishing isn’t luxury but a necessity. 2. Cost of all things fishing increasing 3. Fog delays- but I understand and respect the need for them. 4. Boaters who treat co-anglers as someone just along for the ride. 5. Co-anglers who don’t respect the time/money/effort boaters have invested. 1 Quote

Nelson Delaney Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 Tournament people that have zero courtesy for others on water. They blow by you at full throttle, a few times at arms length. will crowd you out of a spot and finally park behind you at boat launch 1 Quote
The Budget Angler Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 Five things I dislike: 1. Cost Gear is super expensive, and it seems like every lure needs a different rod. Like, why? 2. Noobs that cut line and leave it There's a laydown at a pond I fish at a lot that has basically just turned into monofilament at this point. I understand cutting the line if you're using 30 lb braid, but most of the line is thin mono and it's easy to get most of your line back if you break off. This premium spot has just turned into a massive lure magnet. 3. Big Lakes I hate bass fishing at big lakes. I know they hold big bass, but it's hard to fish from the shore and a little raft with a trolling motor (my current on the water setup) isn't much for getting to hidden spots. 4. Pond scum Need I explain myself? 5. No trespassing signs If you can't fish much on big lakes, small ponds are about all you've got. Every time I fish I have to decide if it's worth walking into the adjacent neighborhood and getting in trouble just to catch a couple bass. Especially since I'm not there to damage anything or hurt anybody. NOTE: this is not an admission of guilt Quote
JackstrawIII Posted May 13, 2024 Posted May 13, 2024 The only thing I don't like is wind. Fighting wind ruins everything. 3 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted May 13, 2024 Super User Posted May 13, 2024 1. Jerks. I can handle the taking forever. I can handle sharing the water with pleasure boaters and skiers. But I can't stand people who are just mean to other people. And sometimes these jerks are nice to me, but mean to other people they're with, and I don't like being around people who are mean to others. 2. Wind. I don't mind a little wind. But it's often way too windy to be fishing here. 25mph is my cutoff. And this time of year, I don't get many fishing days due to the high winds. 3. Loading and unloading. It's no fun. It's a lot of physical work for me (car topping a kayak). And it takes a while. 4. Other people playing loud music in their boats. And it's less that about the music being loud, and more about their taste in music. There's an inverse correlation between volume and substance, both in music and the spoken word. 5. Getting locked into bad conversations with strangers. I understand being lonely. We've all been there. But talk with me about something pleasant. Don't lecture me on politics, religion, or what I'm doing wrong. And try asking questions. If you want to talk, try letting me talk too. BONUS: 6. Every time I forget to get out my scale, I catch a large bass worth weighing, but can't find my scale. Every time I keep scale handy, I get skunked or only catch dinks. And every time I purposefully don't keep my scale handy to push my luck into catching a big bass, I get skunked or catch dinks. The bass gods aren't stupid and will not be manipulated by a mortal.
