I need to get a rod that’s good for C rigs and football jigs. I’ve been pretty partial to Falcon, so was going to get a Lowrider Amistad

Think I may want to try a Dobyns Fury though for the same price point. Do y’all have a model y’all would recommend for this? Thinking maybe a 734C or 735C. Never have owned or used a Dobyns so not sure how they fish

Thanks for any help

Dobyn's is a phenomenal brand. The Fury is also, an amazing model. I would personally recommend the softer 734C since I believe it would load up more than the heavier 735C.

The 734 will fish like most any Medium-Heavy out there, and would be my top pick for football jigs and C rigs.

For me, the 735 is ideally a frog rod or heavy cover rod (flipping, grass, laydowns, docks). I personally use mine for skipping, pitching, grass flipping, small swimbaits, and A rigs. It's not a complete broomstick though, and will still load up pretty decently. Just not decently enough for me to want to use it as an offshore rod.

I have the 705cb in the Fury line and have owned the 733c, 734c and 735c. They are all well balanced, and I really like them. But to be honest, you really start to feel the weight of the rod when you get to the 5 power Furys. The Furys get a lot of love, and they are good for the price. But there is a sizable jump in performance when you get up to the Kaden/Sierra lines. And you can usually find them used for the price of a Fury if you look on Dobyns website, the forum flea market, or American Legacy.

If you are throwing 1/2oz+ jigs I’d recommend the 735c Sierra or the 715/745c Kaden rod. Less than 1/2oz you can drop to a 4 power.

The Kaden rods are faster, better for driving the hook home. The Sierras are a bit slower and load up better when casting. Either one would be a good choice, just comes down to personal preference when picking between the 2.

I've never used a Dobyns rod and I hear they're pretty good but I think your going to have to step up to a Sierra to get Lowrider performance. The reason I say this is go back to around 2016-17, the Fury was about $110 and the Sierra was around $140. Back then when you asked for $100 rod it was the fury vs bucoo vs bass x vs inferno. Want a $150 rod? Sierra vs lowrider vs mojo. Prices changed and the rods are still the same. I think if your used to lowriders and get a fury you'll probably wish you got something else. I might be way off but that's how I look at it.

Pretty much in the same camp as PBBrandon and MyKeyBe.  The Fury is heavier rod.  If you can swing it, go Sierra or Kayden if you go Dobyn's.

Agreed^^

I had Dobyns Fury in 733 and 734, but after trying other options, the 734 started to feel heavy. I weighed it and weighed nearly 6oz. Not horrible, but you can feel the difference when compared to other offerings like Sierra series, Daiwa Tatula, or others around that range.

I have since gotten rid of most of my Fury rods othervthan the 705cb or 703c

I have a 733c, one of my first expensive rods i bought, it was a big step up from a Abu Black max.

They are really great rods, but for a medium heavy its ratings are low, they say Dobyns rates their rods 1 higher then they should be so i guess thats true.

If you want a true MH get the 734c, the 735c would be more like a heavy frog rod as others have stated.

If my 733c breaks ill be replacing it with a 734c for football jigs.

Ive been blessed in all my years of bass fishing to finally start using some higher end stuff....But I cant shake my good ole 765's for chatter baits, spinnerbaits, and top water. Man they make a nice rod. Mine are the Champions.

I only have one Dobyns rod and it isn't a Fury.  I like it.  A lot.  When I first joined this site, if you posted a negative remark about Dobyns rods, you better dig yourself a hole, jump in, and pull a rock over your head.  It wasn't until 2-3 years later that a few people started admitting that you could buy more sensitive rods than the Fury for the same price.  I really haven't looked into the new Fury rods.  My personal preference would be a Falcon.  I do have several of those.  People that actually fish with Falcons seem to like them.  Even after production moved to China.

Dobyns aren't the lightest, but they are usually well balanced (from what I've read) which helps them feel lighter than they actually are.  I have a file with rod weights from various manufacturers.  Unfortunately it is on my old laptop which currently isn't working.

Okay gotta come clean

Went to Academy to grab some stuff for tomorrow. Turns out they’re carrying Kaden series now

Wow, that is a FINE rod. They didn’t have any of the models for football jigs/Carolina rig unfortunately or I probably would have bought one. It was just so light and perfectly balanced. VERY nice rod

I have three Champion XPs and still have a Fury 733C that I use for moving baits.  They are all solid rods for the money, versatile, and I love my 703C as a fluke /  senko rod and my 804C as a heavy C Rig rod, but Dobyns rods are rated about a half tick heavier than they actually fish, so keep that in mind.
