I currently own all Shimano casting reels (Chronarchs, Curados, Etc.) that have a home and really do not know much about Daiwa reels.  Matter of fact, I think the last Daiwa casting reel I owned was an old Team Daiwa TD many moons ago.  Anyway, I have several original Team Daiwa (Larry Nixon) rods that I am wanting to put back into commission and looking for used or new Daiwa casting reel(s).  I prefer the design of the lower profile in which the cranking side sits below the reel seat.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Oh, price range in the $100-$125 since these will be used on a limited basis.

Never ordered from Amazon/Japan.  Are there any additional costs?  How much is shipping to the US?  Any chance of sending a direct link?

I ordered a Daiwa Bass-X reel from Amazon JP. As a Prime member, I paid nothing more than tax, but it did take a little over a week to get to me - Digitaka usually has them in my hand in 3 days from Osaka, JP...and there's no tax.

No additional fees but Amazon will charge sales tax, shipping is free if you're a prime customer. Shipping is via ECMS express with final delivery by FedEx

Nope - just the Yen/Dollar exchange rate applies...prices on their site vary based on that.

If you own all Shimano why would you want to change brands?

So you know for certain that Shimano makes the best baitcasters.:irish-080:

I purchase from Japan Lure Shop as do several others on this site. Although I don’t own a Tatula 100 from what I’ve read and hear from others it’s a great buy, I’ll also add the Tatula 80 which I do own and love available from JLS for $109.20 and the Tatula 100 is $113.75 as of today. I will suggest the upgrade on the shipping which cost me $12.50 to Illinois and delivery was 5 days or less. I tried the cheaper shipping option as I was in no hurry on my last order and it took around 2 weeks but I believe there was a holiday involved. The bonus of ordering from JLS is you receive a free lure with your order, my 3 orders included a Jackhammer chatter bait, a Megabass vision 110 jr and a Megabass dark sleeper.

By no means did I imply that Shimano makes the best baitcasting reels........  I own plenty of Daiwa spinning reels along with Shimano spinning reels and they both make a quality product.  That being said, I have an old Chronarch 100A, Chronarch 100SF and a Curado 200E7 that I wouldn't trade for anything new on the market.  These have served me well for many years and are still silky smooth and cast great.  My son's HGK is a nice reel but built nothing like the ones I just mentioned.

The Diawa Zillion.... But that is above his price point.

What about the Tatula 80?  Is it much smaller (size) than the 100?

@Flyfish-mt Although as I said I don’t own the 24 Tatula 100 but I do own and love the previous version and I will say the Tatula 80 is definitely smaller than that. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the Daiwa Alphas 800 but the Tatula 80 shares the same frame.

How would the size compare to the Curado 200HGK?  Looking for something this size or maybe a tad smaller.  I'm 6'3" (large hands) so maybe the 80 might be a bit too small.  I'll be putting it on an old Team Daiwa pistol grip rod for Pop-R/Topwater fishing.....

I'm going to go with the Tatula but trying to determine what size to get.  Sorry w/ all the questions!

I own a Curado 151 MGL and the Tatula 80 is definitely smaller than that so I would think the Tatula 80 is going to get lost in your hands. I wish I could help out on the new Tatula 100 but I haven’t personally handled one as I know if I do I’m going to want to upgrade my current Tatula 100 😉

Daiwa 100 size reels are pretty close to 150 Shimanos, just a little wider usually to clear the TWS.

Not a perfect comparison but here is a Curado 150 DC (same frame as the 200K I believe) and a Tatula Elite 100

Peacedivision, perfect!  I think I'll be going w/ the 100 as the 80 just might be too small.  I really appreciate everybody's help!

It's great...and tiny.  I like a compact reel, but I have XL hands, and need a little more

reel to palm for bottom contact.  I use my 80's for smaller moving baits.  If you get one, you'll end up with the other eventually.

The new '24 is quite a bit smaller than the '19 model.  I was pretty surprised when I held one at the classic expo.

A Daiwa 100 is similar to a Shimano 150 in terms of line capacity, size, and feel (except for the tiny 90mm handles, which I like). The Daiwa 80 is more of a Shimano 70, very small reel for finesse stuff, borderline BFS IMO.

I own both Daiwa and Shimanos; Fuego, Tatula, SLX, Curado. Love them both equally, but, Daiwa ever so slightly has my favor for the braking system. When you change to another lure, all you have to do is remember a number. Shimano, you've got to remember how many you had on/off, what your fine tune dial was at, etc. Once you get it zeroed, it's amazing, but takes a minute longer than a daiwa.

Ok, I pulled the trigger and ordered the Tatula 100H TW (RH) from Amazon for a total of $118.17 (free delivery).  They are saying it is to be delivered on 5/24.......... I guess free shipping = slow shipping....

Shipping speed depends on whoever ECMS uses for final delivery, on the Japan side they're really fast. Here on the West coast I've only had 1 order take more than a week because after the handoff from ECMS FedEx decided to fly it across the country and back prior to delivery.
